On her newest album, Breakout, released in July, Miley Cyrus included a track titled “Wake Up America.” The song’s lyrics speak to becoming environmentally conscious moving forward. Miley sings about being curious about the environment herself and urges listeners to act: “I’ll try if you will.”

Miley is the perfect celebrity for Disney to use to reach out to their young, influential audience. Many young people look up to Miley and respect her actions.

The catchy lyrics of the pop song help bring the message across in a non-threatening way – to kids and their parents alike. Miley speaks to her fans’ parents:

“I know that you don’t want to hear it.
Especially coming from someone so young.
But in the backseat, yea, they wanna hear it.
So come on, turn it up…”

Miley also adds that it is easy to look away from environmental issues, but that it is getting harder with each passing day. She argues that everything we do makes a difference – either positive or negative – and that we need to start taking care of the Earth, because “It’s our home.”
