Here are the estimated dollar amounts for the movies that played this weekend at the box office:
1. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail, $16.5 million
2. Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, $12.7 million
3. Slumdog Millionaire, $12.2 million
4. Taken, $10 million
5. He’s Just Not That Into You, $5.9 million
6. Paul Blart: Mall Cop, $5.6 million
7. Coraline, $5.3 million
8. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, $4.7 million
9. Confessions of a Shopaholic, $4.5 million
10. Fired Up, $3.8 million
The Jonas Brothers couldn’t get better than NUMBER 2! But why?
There have been some theories flooding internet as to why the JoBros 3D Concert Experience fell short of box office expectations.
The first theory is that the execs at Disney expected that the Jonas Brothers could pull in as much as Miley Cyrus did with her Hannah Montana 3D Best of Both Worlds Concert – and based the estimated numbers (that the JoBros fell short of) off of her sales. However, they failed to realize that the JoBros do not have an extremely popular Disney Channel show (Hannah Montana) and there is also a chance that teen girls feel more of a connection to Hannah than to the JoBros. Although, we would argue that the crush girls have on the JoBros is stronger than the girly bond they feel with Hannah.
Another theory spreading is that because the economy is getting worse each day, parents are hesitant to bring their kids to the movies, however the other movies on the list mentioned above have been doing just fine, especially the movie in the number 1 spot. So this theory seems pretty weak.
The third theory, we’re sorry to say, blames the Jonas Brothers themselves. Many suggest that the Jonas Brothers have yet to make a Disney Channel Original Movie (Camp Rock) that beats out any of the High School Musicals. Therefore suggesting that the JoBros are less popular than Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Miley Cyrus, etc. This is the theory we’re going with. We love the JoBros, but we think they have a ways to go before they reach Miley Cyrus’ stardom level.
Or, have they already reached it, and now they’re falling?
The Jonas brothers are still stars, just not superstars like Miley. Also, they tour every year so people knew they could save their money for their concert for just a little more than the price of the movie,$27.50.
And kids are not stupid. They had a feeling that Miley’s BOBW concert would be a once in a lifetime event AND THEY WERE RIGHT!
Hannah Montana will never tour again!! Miley’s new tour will not involve dressing as Hannah.
