If you have already seen Miley Cyrus’ new Disney Movie Hannah Montana: The Movie, you have seen the fashions that the actors wore in the film. This has been related to the new trend of more parent-friendly tween and teen fashions.
Remember just a few years ago when Britney was a teenager, and she made belly shirts and short skirts popular? Well now Disney is trying something a bit different with the help of popular Disney Stars like Miss Miley.
In the Hannah Montana: The Movie Miss Miley was not even allowed to wear leggings, spaghetti straps, camisoles belly shirts, short skirts or one-shoulder tank tops.
Part of this was to appease parents of the kids who were attending the film on the big screen, but another part of this was Disney’s attempt to keep Miss Miley connected to her target demographic – young girls aged 6 to 14 years old: “We wanted her to look as natural, normal and neutral as possible in most of the film – hair and makeup of course, but especially costumes,” says director Peter Chelsom. Peter worked with costume designer, Christopher Lawrence, to tone down Miss Miley’s look on screen to keep her from looking as grown up as she does for the photogs out on the town: “Miley Cyrus is a role model for young girls,” Lawrence says. “And that’s something we took very seriously. When you go out shopping for young girls, colors are acidy and fabrics are clingy,” he says. “You see lots of spandex cotton, tank tops and spaghetti straps, really short skirts and tight jeans. Some of this stuff is way inappropriate.”
Does this make sense to you all? Do you all dress this way or are you still dressing a bit more like Britney Spears?
