Posing with a nude model, dropping out of the ‘Footloose’ remake, giving up on musicals, and now cursing in the upcoming May issue of GQ Magazine. What is going on with Zac Efron? In recent interviews, Zac has made it very clear that he would like to take on more mature and challenging roles and stay away from musicals and teen-themed films. We wonder though what he is trying to prove in the upcoming GQ issue. The interviewer literally steps into Zac’s home, his daily routine, and his car to see where Zac Efron wants to go in his life and his career.

In the article, it seems Zac downplays all the roles he has taken up until now as if they meant nothing to him. Although he explains he is not embarrassed about High School Musical and claims he would do another for free, which sounds almost contradictory to what he has been quoted with saying! He carefully explains that his soon-to-be-released film, 17 Again, is transitional. Zac Says he does not want to alienate the fan’s he’s had up until now, but he is clearly looking for new ones.

Further removing himself from his HSM persona, Zac explains that “It’s such a fine line, between being famous for who you are personally and for your films. And I’ve been on the wrong side of it my whole career.”

Zac drives the interviewer along in his Audi as he spits out stories about Kathy Griffin and Britney Spears, dropping several F-bombs in between. Cursing even more, he clearly gets agitated when asked about the rumor of his false eyelashes. Making it perfectly clear he has never worn false eyelashes he offers $1 million to any one who can prove otherwise. Seems a little out of character for an actor with such a young following. Showing his older, mature side, Zac goes on to explain that the things he wants to be involved in are just out of reach, “The things people do want you for are usually not things you want to do.”

It seems the message Zac wants heard loud and clear is that he is growing up. He no longer wants to be typecast in musical or teen-heart throb roles. Zac Efron has been in the limelight for some time, thanks in part to his pretty face; Zac hopes to change that. Studying 1970’s films from the likes of Paul Newman and De Niro, he hopes to learn from these Hollywood heavyweights and make a name for himself as an actor, not a teeny-bopper.

As for his upcoming projects? “I’m going to do something – something cool. Something people aren’t necessarily expecting.”
