Last month the Walt Disney Company had released Disney-branded eggs to two test markets in Florida and New York. These eggs were packaged in a cartoon that was plastered with Mickey Mouse’s face and placed on supermarket shelves in these two states with the carton message reading “Good Source of Protein.” In addition to the carton packaging, each individual egg is stamped with the face of a different Disney character, ranging from characters from Toy Story to those in Winnie The Pooh.
But now Disney has moved on from eggs to fruit through the Disney Garden products line. This idea of Disney’s began in 2006, but is just starting to make headway in grocery stores this year. The Walt Disney Company is licensing out its characters images to numerous brands who sell apples, bananas, avocados and more to try to sell healthy foods to kids and their families. These companies all seem relatively happy to partner with the family-friendly brand as they assume it positively affects their brand image. This line of Disney products, of which sales grew 70 percent last year, is said to be available in 18 out of 20 of the top grocery retailers throughout the United States, however we have yet to see these products anywhere – and believe us, we’re looking!
We’re especially interested in the High School Musical branded avocado. Maybe it’s just us, but we can’t exactly imagine a teenager begging their parents to bring home an avocado, even if it has a sticker with Zac Efron’s face on it (even if he did just make the most beautiful people list).
We do realize why Disney is doing this – it turns out they get to keep a profit of each sale. So to Disney, it’s not just a matter of keeping kids healthy, it’s also the same thing to them as welling a t-shirt with Hannah Montana on it, its just another product on their list of many that they can make a profit from. It also turns out that over the last year families have started eating out less and making food at home more often, which also accounts for a raise in grocery sales and in turn a spike in Disney branded products at your local supermarket.
Have any of you tried any Disney branded food products lately? We’d love to hear what you thought of them!

Wow I’d So Pay For That Food! Lol, I Sound Quite Sad But Disney Rocks!

They have Disney apples, bananas and oranges here in Ireland but they’re tiny! You’d finish them in like 2 bites! They’re also grossly over priced!
