It’s always nice to see Disney Stars doing good!
Late last month the pilot episode for the show Glee aired, and low and behold Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend Justin Gaston has a role in it! Justin plays a character who is on the football team, but it doesn’t sound like he talks too much in the show – they basically just have them there for eye-candy.
The show aired on Fox and was created by Ryan Murphy, the creator of the show Nip/Tuck, and the show was written by Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk.
Net is fast-tracking the project — which revolves around the world of high school glee clubs — and has ordered four additional scripts beyond the pilot. If all goes as planned, Fox hopes to have the show on the air by March, as a potential companion to “American Idol.”
The show Glee takes place in the Midwest and centers on the character Will who is a Spanish teacher who is called upon to coach the glee club at the high school he works at. Meaning that the characters on the show are both straight as well as gay.
Oh yea, and it’s a musical show. There are said to be at least four songs per episode. Fox is doing this because they have had such good luck with the show American Idol and they hope to pull in viewers from the audience of Idol who enjoys singing. And just like Idol, all the songs are well known songs that have not been written special for the show because “people like to see people singing songs they know.”
Murphy says of the show, “It’s a 9 p.m. show, it’s not designed for 8. But it is designed for families to watch together. It’s sweet, but it will appeal to both kids and adults, it’s written for both of them. There’s so much on the air right now about people with guns, or sci-fi, or lawyers running around. This is a different genre, there’s nothing like it on the air at the networks and cable. Everything’s so dark in the world right now, that’s why ‘Idol’ worked. It’s pure escapism.”
Do you think this show will be picked up or will it bomb?
The Disney Channel is trying to gain even more of an audience for their three most popular shows by airing a special crossover episode which will air in the near future. The crossover episode will include the shows Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and The Suite Life On Deck.
The plot of the show will be that the family from Wizards of Waverly Place, the Russo’s, will be taking a family vacation to Hawaii on the S.S. Tipton (from The Suite Life On Deck), and the cast of Hannah Montana will somehow be interwoven into the show too. Sounds like mayhem to us!
This isn’t the first time Disney has tried this, but the company has only tried this technique one other time, which means that it may not be the most successful venture, but it looks like they are willing to give it another go. The first time the Disney Channel tried this was in 2006 with its three biggest shows at the time Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
Looks like the only cast that is going to feel out of the loop while filming is Wizards – Sorry Selena!
CBS Films will be working with Vanessa Hudgens this summer to create a movie called Beastly. The film will be a modern Beauty and the Beast story with Vanessa playing the role of the fair maiden, or Beauty.
CBS Films has recently worked with actors including Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell, Jennifer Lopez and Kiera Knightly.
The Vanessa Hudgens movie will be set in Manhattan and will tell the story of a gorgeous rich kid who isn’t very nice. When he ditches his date without warning a curse is placed upon him and he is therefore turned into a creature (creepy!). He then must find true love in order to break the spell – yikes!
Filming for Beastly starts this summer in Montreal, Canada, and will be released in 2010 to movie theaters.
Jesse McCartney recently sat down with Just Jared Jr. for an in-depth interview about his career, his likes and his dislikes and his love life. Here are some of the best quotes from the interview:
About why he decided to pursue a career in music, Jesse answered, “Well, my parents were both musically inclined. They both played piano and both were singer/songwriters and both were kind of theater addicts. They met in the theatre. My mom went to every school you can imagine – she went to Julliard, she went to UCLA Berkley. Some families were into sports, mine was into music. I started in theater, on Broadway and off-Broadway doing a bunch of shows, musicals mainly. That’s where it all sort of began.”
And it turns out not only his parents play the piano, Jesse said, “I played piano for like three or four years when I was younger and then I quit, which was a big mistake. But it was enough that I could read and write music. My chops aren’t there but I can read the charts and I can write a song. I mess around with the alto-saxophone. When I was younger, I wouldn’t have bragged about that but now I think it is a really cool instrument. I think there was a year in there where I played violin because my mom made me. It allowed me to sit down and write a song. I can fiddle around on the guitar a little bit if I practice. I have a good memory and good hand-eye coordination so I can play by ear. So I can sit down and fiddle around and get it. Plus I’m playing with some of the best musicians. My band is just like…it’s so great to have a band like them. You dream of playing with people like this as a little kid. We’re about to go on tour in December which we’re really excited about. A bunch of R&B cats.”
Jesse also discussed what it was like to go on tour with Jordin Sparks. He said, “Oh, we became great friends. Jordin – that’s my girl. She’s awesome. It was a great tour, we had just the best time. She is so unaffected and just amazingly talented and the sweetest girl. Her whole band and crew – her whole team is just real fun to work with. I’d love to do it again, it was great.”
Jesse also spills on how he keeps in touch with his friends: “’m a Blackberry guy. I never switched over to the iPhone. I’m about to get the new one [Blackberry]. The Bold I guess. I really like the new one. I’m pretty much on the phone a lot, more so than I am on e-mail or on the internet.”
Do you think his media habits are refreshing, or would you rather he was more like your typical Disney Star – like Miley, Demi or Selena who are updating their Twitter pages constantly???
