Disney Studio’s Chief Executive Robert A. Iger isn’t going to beat around the bush anymore when it comes to why the studio isn’t making the big bucks it’s used to making. Robert isn’t blaming the studio itself, or the economy, rather he is blaming the movies the studio has been putting out recently.

This year the Disney Studio’s operating income has dropped 97% (from $377 million to $13 million) yikes!

Disney has recently been aiming to make movies that reach an audience who is interested in “new Disney.” Meaning movies like High School Musical, Hannah Montana: The Movie, and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Experience, but the company is forgetting who their audience is. Yes, there are many kids and teens who are interested in those films, but Disney shouldn’t be ignoring all the adults who grew up with Disney over the years and love the classics like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.

Many of the movies Disney has been putting out lately, especially the Jonas Brothers 3D Movie and Confessions of a Shopaholic are falling extremely short of expectations and are costing the company a lot of money to make and bringing them barely any revenue in return. Causing Disney to rank at the bottom of the list of the six major Hollywood Studios.

Robert has admitted that Disney’s problem right now is that “It’s about choice of films and the execution of the films that have been chosen for production. We’ve had a rough year in terms of the performance of the slate. So, in that case, it’s not the marketplace. It’s our slate.”

Disney may have to cut back on the number of movies it releases, which is only four movies each quarter right now! When Disney was booming it used to release over 30 movies a year, now it’s hanging in at around 24…if that.

The Disney studio is confident that its upcoming movies will have a stronger draw than the movies it released this quarter which included Bedtime Stories and Race to Witch Mountain along with Jonas Brothers 3D and Confessions. Disney’s upcoming films include UP, The Princess and the Frog and Toy Story 3, G-Force, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, and Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
