Disney’s Toy Story Mania! ride is the most high-tech ride ever produced by Disney for its theme parks.
In the ride, Disney guests enjoy riding in vehicles that seat eight individuals. They wear 3D glasses and can see images of the characters from the Toy Story movies all around them. They get to play 3D games using shooting devices on the ride to interact with the characters. The ride also has LCD displays that show riders how many points they have earned throughout the game.
In addition, there are 154 graphics workstations powering the Toy Story Mania! ride. The workstations are running Windows XP that render the 3D images on the rides screens at 60 frames per second. The workstations also communicate with each other and the four gaming systems onboard each ride vehicle using an industrial strength wireless network.
The network can tell the exact location of each of the rides vehicles at every moment within one inch. This way the workstations can determine where to render the images on the screens depending on where the riders are.
Wow! That sounds awesome – what do you think?
