UNICEF appointed Disney’s Selena Gomez as its newest Ambassador today. In the Fall of 2008 UNICEF named Selena the spokesperson for the company’s Trick-or-Treat Halloween campaign – so Selena is not new to the company’s campaigns.
Selena said about her stand with UNICEF: “Every day 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero. I know we can achieve this because every moment UNICEF is on the ground providing children with the lifesaving assistance needed to ensure zero becomes a reality.”
Selena is leaving today to travel to Ghana to witness the living conditions first hand. She posted on her Twitter: “Hey guys! I’m going to be in Africa for a week. Hope you guys have a great week, I can’t wait to tell you all about the trip! Love you!”
Selena is currently the youngest UNICEF Ambassador in the US.
In the picture above Selena is pictured with her grandfather. She posted last night on Twitter: “Tried to fall asleep, too much on my mind. So papa made me cereal and told me about how met nana.”

Thanks for letting us know about this – I saw her tweet about Africa, but had no idea why she was going!
This is so cool. It’s obvious that Selena has a really big heart, and I so admire her leadership in taking on this issue. I’m hoping she’ll take and tweet some pics from Africa after she gets back…this is such an important issue.
