Luxo Lamp Brand Suing Disney And Pixar

Sep - 07 - 09 | By: Disney Dreaming | 6 Comments | Share |

Luxo Lamps

The Luxo lamp company is suing Disney and Pixar because they claim that the lamp used at the beginning of each Disney/Pixar film is a replica of their lamp. The hopping lamp at the beginning of each Disney/Pixar feature has become the mascot for the Disney/Pixar company, and the Luxo lamp company is not too happy about it.

The lawsuit was filed this month. According to the Luxo company there is no issue with Disney/Pixar using their brand of lamp, however they want the name of the lamp changed. For example Disney/Pixar released a limited-edition novelty lamp called the “Luxo Jr.” And the Luxo company finds a problem with that.

The lawsuit filed by Luxo states that the unauthorized use of the Luxo name could “cause devastating damage” to the Luxo company – um, how can free publicity by Disney/Pixar hurt your brand?

What are your thoughts on this?

Dumb. Pixar has used that logo for as long as I can remember. Seems like they just need the money. If it was really a concern, they would have sued them a LONG time ago.

The thing is, the logo and film is ok. Luxo and Pixar had a deal.

But now Disney is making a crappy plastic lamp and calling it…Luxo.. you mean that doesnt hurt the company?

Ok, say you aquire the right to use Ferrari cars in a racing game. Then you decide to make and sell a crappy physical replica, oh and, lets also call it Ferrari..
