The Los Angeles Times talked to author Tim Powers last week and Tim confirmed that Disney would be using the plot of his book “On Stranger Tides” for their upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” movie.
It is still unclear which sections of the novel will be used in the upcoming Pirates movie, but Tim said he hopes that the directors choose to use a section of the book, in which the characters take a trip to the Fountain of Youth.
But are the characters in Tim’s book similar to the Disney Pirates characters? Tim says: “My main character doesn’t overlap with Jack Sparrow at all [in personality or circumstance]; they’re totally different characters. I suppose they might overlap the Geoffrey Rush character Barbossa and Blackbeard. The only thing I feel certain they will hold on to is the Fountain of Youth since they telegraphed that at the end of the last movie.”
Thoughts?
