Apple has proposed a new type of television that would rival the kind you get from cable TV operators. Individuals would be able to pick and choose the channels they get starting at $30 a month for service.
Instead of proposing a new piece of hardware, the Apple company will instead be extending its iTunes software and store to make the television programming work.
If Apple can get enough TV stations to agree to the idea it will be a go, and so far the Disney Channel seems to be the closest to saying yes. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has worked with iTunes in the past and is currently using Apple’s ideas to revamp their Disney Stores.
In addition, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs is Disney’s largest shareholder.
Apple is trying to join the like of Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and Hulu who stream movies online. But rather than movies, Apple wants to stream live television content.
While many individuals may not enjoy watching their television programming on the internet, there are simple cables you can buy to hook your computer up to your television and watch the picture on a bigger screen.
Would you buy your television from Apple?
