Disney Interactive Studios has released more details about the upcoming video game titled “Disney Epic Mickey.”
The game stars Mickey Mouse who has been re-imagined by game designer Warren Spector and his game development studio, Junction Point. The video game is edgy compared to the typical idea we all have of Mickey Mouse.
Warren had this to say about Mickey: “Mickey is an adventurous and rambunctious mouse. I want to bring his personality to the forefront, place him in a daunting world and connect his spirited character with video game players worldwide. Ultimately, each player decides for him- or herself what makes Mickey cool.”
The video game displays a whimsically-twisted world where the characters no longer used by Disney live – including Disney’s first cartoon character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who was created by Walt Disney himself in 1927. The world inside the video game is created by the character Yen Sid, the nickname for the sorcerer from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” from Walt Disney’s 1940 film “Fantasia.”
In the video game, Mickey Mouse finds Yen Sid’s Cartoon Wasteland map and ends up having to meet up with all of the characters living in the land who dislike him for his popularity.
Warren says about the game: “The core of this game is the idea of choice and consequence, and how that defines both the character and the player. By putting the mischievous Mickey in an unfamiliar place and asking him to make choices – to help other cartoon characters or choose his own path – the game forces players to deal with the consequences of their actions. Ultimately, players must ask themselves, ‘What kind of hero am I?’ Each player will come up with a different answer.”
Disney Epic Mickey is set to release in 2010 to the Wii console. Does is sound like a game you would be interested in playing?
