Disney is trying something a bit different with its new Original Series “Good Luck Charlie.” The Channel hopes to be able to reach a wider audience range with GLC than with any of its other shows, and is striving to be similar to past television shows “The Crosby Show” and “The Wonder Years.”
But will this be possible?
While Disney has no issue reaching a young demographic with the material it rights, the Disney Channel execs are trying to figure out how to mold this content so that it appeals to adults as well – without alienating younger viewers.
Disney Channel’s Entertainment President said about Good Luck Charlie: “What ‘Good Luck Charlie’ represents is an evolutionary step to really put the family into our kid-driven family brand. Do I think this will be a first choice for 35- to 40-year-old moms? Not necessarily. … But if we do our jobs properly and we create the authenticity we’re talking about, it will allow us to tackle stories in a more grounded way that will be more appealing to parents than other shows we’ve done before.”
