Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Street Lamp Facts

Jan - 17 - 10 | By: Disney Dreaming | One Comment | Share |

Hi all! In anticipation for our visit to Walt Disney World next month we will be sharing with you some really cool facts about the park from now until then!

The first fact we thought was really cool is about the first section of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom – Main Street U.S.A.

When you enter into the Magic Kingdom you start off on Main Street. There are shops all around you and it makes you feel as if you have traveled a bit back in time.

If you take a peek at the street lamps lining the walkway, you’ll notice that at first these are gas lamps.

Pay attention as you move further down the pathway towards Cinderella’s Castle – and you’ll notice that these lamps become electric!

Walt Disney and his Imagineers (which stands for Imagination and Engineers) who helped build the park were meticulous about every single detail. This change in lamp design was not a mistake, instead it is there to symbolize your movement through time!

Also on Main Street U.S.A. there are horse-shaped hitching posts. A special fact about these posts is that they are scraped and re-painted twice a month – wow!

  1. The Disney Dad says:

These little details are what set Disney entertainment apart from the others. The cleanliness, the small details like the names in the windows on Main Street, every section sets has it’s own theme and follows it down to the smallest detail.

    It’s truly amazing.
