M Magazine talked with Nick Jonas about his song “Rose Garden.” He told the magazine:

“’Rose Garden’ is one of my favorite tracks. It is inspired by a true story. The rose garden was this young girl’s safe place. I thought I was cool that she ran to this place to feel safe.”

But is the true story that of Selena Gomez?

Here are the lyrics from “Rose Garden”:

“She was brought into this world, out of a beautiful mistake, when her mom was just a girl, and her daddy didn’t stay, she was working at age 9, at the flower shop in town…she was young, but not naïve, always wise beyond her years, hoping that no one would see every time she dried her tears.” – Rose Garden

Like the girl in the song, Selena’s mom had her young, and soon after, her parents split apart. Selena began working at a young age and she calls herself “an old soul” and has professed her love for roses.

M Magazine got to hear another song from Nick, and they’re pretty sure that it’s about Selena too! The song is titled “Last Time Around” and the lyrics go like this:

“Don’t forget the fun we had last summer, when the grass was greener and your hair was longer.”

Interesting isn’t it that Nick did in fact date Selena the year before she had her hair cut short.

Nick told M Magazine about the songs: “These songs came pouring out of me. They’ve been on my mind for awhile.”
