Taylor: “I knocked on doors”
If you’re a girl with a big dream, take a cue from Taylor and make it happen—she took matters into her own hands! Taylor explains, “My mom waited in the car while I knocked on doors up and down Nashville’s Music Row. I would say, ‘Hi, I’m Taylor. I’m 11. I want a record deal. Call me.’” Taylor’s approach worked—she got her first record contract!
Demi: “I went on open casting calls”
Next time you flip through the paper, look for open auditions—that’s how Demi found fame. She dishes to us, “When I was six or seven, my mom and I would check for open casting calls. There’d be hundreds of kids who all wanted the same part. At that point, the odds are against you. But, when I auditioned for Barney, they really liked me!” Now, Demi’s a household name!
Kellan: “I started as a model”
When Kellan moved to LA after high school, he knew he wanted to act. But since jobs were scarce, he turned to modeling to make a name for himself. “I did a few modeling campaigns—one was for Levi’s, another was for Abercrombie & Fitch,” he reveals to TWIST. Over the next few years, modeling got Kellan noticed. He was cast in TV roles on shows like Summerland and Heroes, and in 2007, he auditioned for a little movie called Twilight—we know how that worked out!
Justin: “I made YouTube videos”
If you want to follow Justin’s path to celeb status, get a video cam and play around! “I started singing just for fun,” he reveals exclusively to TWIST. “I never did it because I had to. I entered a local singing competition because it was something to do — I never tried to be famous. I put videos on YouTube so my friends and family could see them and see what I was up to.” One day, a record exec came across Justin’s videos, and immediately saw his “It” quality. Within months, Usher and Justin Timberlake were clamoring to work with the young talent. “Now I realize this is what I was meant to do, but I just didn’t know it then,” Justin reveals exclusively to TWIST. “It’s sweet!”
