Rumor has it that Paramount and Marvel Entertainment are close to signing actor Chris Pine, who is known for his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek, as the character Captain America / Steve Rogers in the upcoming “Captain America” movie.
There are a number of other actors in the running for the movie, but since it has been given a release date of July 22, 2011, it is expected that studio executives will make a decision in the coming weeks.
The movie’s full title will be “The First Avenger: Captain America.”

What an awful pick…. if it is true.
I think his casting is going to be harder than most.
He needs to be tall. Muscular and play a real lead role not just in Captain America but the Avengers as well.
Hope it is not him.

Although I hadn’t heard this rumor, I think it’d be an interesting choice for Chris Pine. He’d be the Captain in two large budget pictures.
I expect that Johnston (the director) will pick an unknown as he said he wants to during his recent interview for the Wolfman. Still, if the start of production has already been announced, they must be close to signing someone.
I like Chris Pine and I liked him in Star Trek (and Blind Dating, if anyone else has seen that…). I don’t know if I really see him quoting Mark Twain, or him as the man out of time who is frozen in the 40s. We’ll see.
Also, there’s a little irony here. For Star Trek, the rumor was Matt Damon, but Pine, a relative unknown, got the part. That wasn’t very long ago, and already the same sort of rumors are being made for Pine. Noting that too, I’d like to see an unknown play cap. Definitely not some of the other pics. (DiCaprio is always rumored for these things and never does them, and Channing “Duke from GI Joe” Tatum would be godawful.)
I could see Chris as the young Captain America (maybe for military flash backs) other than that they need to get Mark Valley (aka: TV’s “Human Target” Star) he has the height, muscles, quick wit, and commanding voice and charactor.

Do this right people and get someone who fits the part. Chris Pine is known now for the role of Kirk and that just don’t fit gim into the spandex of C.A. Just like when they gave Brandon Routh Superman Returns when Tom Welling had been playing the part already for years. I rather have seem “Superman: The Beginning” with Tom then the Crap Performance of Routh playing a returning Superman.
