Selena Gomez Talks About Miley Cyrus Leaving Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana
In a recent interview Selena Gomez talked about Miley Cyrus leaving the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” after this next season:
“I think that she’s growing with the show, and I think it’s such a great platform for her. And she’s lived up to it as wonderfully as she could, and I think she continues to carry it, but she’s ready for other things.”
Thoughts?

I like Miley Cyrus, but after four years as “Hannah Montana”, it’s time for her to part company with Disney and move on to other things. She’s got movies to film while she takes a break from her music. When she returns to recording her music, it’s a pretty good bet that she’ll return to country music, because her singing voice is that of a country singer, remember the songs “Ready, Set, Don’t Let Go” and “The Climb”? She said recently that she’s not happy with the direction of pop music and she’s also stated that she’s not a fan of hard-core country- she’s more comfortable with recording her brand of country music, mostly about uplifting and positive messages in life that fans seem to be oblivious to in pop music, good old-fashioned down-home fun songs with fiddles and banjos and possibly future collaborations with other country artists in her age range. Back when “The Climb” came out, it appeared that Miley was looking to bring her young fans to country music, because that was a country song. Pop music would’ve been good for her if people would quit looking for excuses to tear her down with baseless criticism, but clearly, Miley was out of place in pop- she’s a natural as a country singer. Disney seemed to have an issue with her, wanting to do country, rather than teen pop, but they can’t take Nashville out of Miley, because that’s her birth city. As a country singer, Miley Cyrus, in my opinion, is very underrated- Disney prefers teen pop, but that just isn’t for her. She’s already stated that her current album, “Can’t Be Tamed” will be her last pop album, which gives indication to what she told MTV, last year, about wanting to record an all-country album- it appears that when she returns to recording her music after filming a few movies, country is going to be the direction that Miley is going in. I could also see her signing a movie agreement with Disney’s arch-rival, Warner Bros. I can also see her changing record labels, switching to one in her native Nashville, to record her first all-country album. Her real fans will still watch her movies, but musically speaking, no more pop music for her, because her fans will follow her to country radio. Miley should leave Disney, because it’s time. Whomever claims everyone is sick of her, couldn’t be more wrong about her, now. She deserves to be happy, she deserves to be independent, but she doesn’t need the same kind of unnecessary aggravation, all over again. She refuses to give in to the same political pressures of the music industry that her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, had to deal with- she’s not going down that path. People are very wrong to prejudge her and equally wrong to compare her to past Disney stars that have sense, fallen from grace- Miley is her own person, bottom line. She has much better things to do with her time than to go clubbing, get wasted and endulge in substance abuse- she has a life, a career and she’s working, and it makes absolutely no sense at all why people waste time looking to find faults with her, when there’s very little of them at all. Disney does have a bad reputation with how they treat their stars and that impact lingers, long after they leave the studio. Miley knows what that’s like, but she’s been standing her ground as she’s ready to leave Disney, which is probably the best thing for her to do. In the future, after “Hannah Montana” is over, I could definitely see Miley doing a concert commercial promo on Cartoon Network. At the end of that promo, she’ll announce, “I’m Miley Cyrus, and you’re watching Cartoon Network!” I wish Miley all the best in her movies, and when she resumes her music career, she will be a very successful country singer.

Miley Cyrus just wants to grow up. I mean, she’s 18, who would want to be dressing up in pink and glitter and doing a show that 12 year olds would do at her age? She was embarrased, so she was sort of happy to leave. But Disney made her who she is today, wealthy and happy and one of the greatest teen stars in the world. So she is grateful for that. She did say that Hannah Montanna was like going to school, so she’ll miss that. But all she’s trying to do is take a next step in her career and hopefully, it will be successful.
