ABC LOST’s Cave Wall Numbers Match Hatch Numbers

February 19, 2010 |  by

Did anyone else realize that the numbers on the cave walls of LOST, which we just saw in Season 6 Episode 4, match the numbers from Hurley’s lottery ticket and the numbers on the Hatch door?

Here are the numbers on the wall:

4. “Locke”
8. “Reyes”
15. “Ford”
16. “Jarrah”
23. “Shephard”
42. “Kwon”

And here are the numbers from the Hatch:

4 8 15 16 23 42

Now here’s where we getting a little bit nervous. It was recently revealed that because it’s the end of the LOST series, the creators are planning on killing off a number of the characters. Will they perish in order of their numbers?

4. John Locke (who is technically already dead, but his body is inhabited by someone else, so is he the first to be checked off the list?)
8. “Hugo ‘Hurley’ Reyes
15. James ‘Sawyer’ Ford
16. Sayid Jarrah
23. Jack Shephard
42. Sun & Jin Kwon

We have two problems with this list. First, is number 42 for Sun, or for her husband Jin, or both.

And second. WHERE’S KATE AUSTEN!?

If we find out in the next episode that Kate is already dead, we’re not going to be pleased. At first we thought that perhaps they just didn’t show Kate’s number on the cave wall, but when we realized the cave wall numbers matched the hatch numbers we assume that Kate is already crossed off, or will be very, very soon.

And if the cave numbers are the same as the hatch numbers you have to assume that Jacob, who brought everyone to the island and wrote the names on the cave wall, knew who would be listed next to those numbers on the cave wall – and wouldn’t he have been better off just bringing those individuals to the island instead of everyone else as well?

What do you think of all of this?

  1. Perhaps the fact Kate’s name is not on the list has nothing to do with her being the future protector of the island, but rather she was either a) meant to be the counsel/consort of the future leader or b) already taken out of the running for something she did, like, oh say, killing her father (who she thought was her step father) or taking Aaron from the island, or any of the numerous other things she has done.

  2. perhaps its a male only list?

“perhaps its a male only list?”

    That makes the most sense.

  4. I think that we may see the return of the real John Locke back to the island. Even though they burried him..they could still technically take him to the same spring that Saidd was put into to bring him back alive. And as far as this evil in these people…it may not affect Locke as the smoke monster is already Lock. Just a thought.

  5. Yes, I did notice this and thought it means something important. However, I didn’t come to the conclusion of who dies and in what order. If Hurley is “killed” off, I really will be devastated. He’s such a comic relief to the drama of the show and is essential in so many ways–How will Jacob communicate with them without Hurley’s curse/gift of seeing dead people?

Concerning Kate’s name not included, it’s not the only important name not included on the wall. I doubt Kate will be killed off without a dramatic scene included in that moment because she’s been such a vital part of the series.

I just still don’t know how they’re going to close up the series in a 6-8 more episodes. There are so many unanswered questions and important aspects to tie up. They have a lot of work to do…

Ok, think about this, they have mentioned before that the numbers all add up to 108! Also, Jacob told Hurley to tell Jack to put the lighthouse setting to 108, now what if that is Kate’s number?! She is a candidate! And most likely the one thats going to be the successor!

Also another theory is possibly its Desmond? He was told to go back to the island by Faradays mom, but we haven’t seen him?

  7. Maybe all these men on the list are not candidates for becoming the new guardian, but candidates for being the new guardians father? What if Kate is supposed to become the mother of the new guardian?
