Walt Disney Company Wants To Make Movies That Offer Merchandising Opportunities

The Walt Disney Company has made it clear that it strictly wants to make movies that offer merchandising opportunities, rather than just large-grossing blockbusters.

The movie The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock, grossed the Walt Disney Company $315 million after only costing $40 million to make. However, Disney has no desire to create a sequel to the film because there are no merchandise opportunities – aka nobody would purchase a Sandra Bullock doll at the Disney Store.

Movies that are currently in the works at the Walt Disney Studios is a new Muppet movie as well as a movie based on the Jungle Cruise ride at the Disney theme parks.

What do you think about this?

  1. So Disney’s brilliant new movie lineup includes: a new movie starring the muppets and a movie based on the old Jungle Cruise ride?

These are supposed to be improvements over crap like G-Force?

I bet the crews at Dreamworks and 20th Century Fox are laughing their heads off right now.

  2. In other news, the Pope is Catholic.
