On February 2nd, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment re-released the movie “Air Bud: Golden Receiver” on a Special Edition DVD.

The movie is about Buddy, the dog that can play basketball, but this time, he also learns that he has a knack for the sport of football.
Buddy’s owner Josh decides to try out for the school football team after his mom’s new boyfriend gives him a football as a gift. Josh is having a hard time adjusting to his mom dating, but rather than acting out he decides to spend less time at home and more time on the field.
Josh may not be really excited about the sport of football, as he’s a bigger fan of basketball, but Buddy sure doesn’t mind! Buddy hops on the field with the rest of the team and proves that he is a great help! That is, until he is kidnapped, well, in this case dognapped!
Two villains in the movie are trying to create their own circus, and they want Buddy, the basketball hoop-shooting dog to be the main attraction!
On the same day that Josh’s mom’s boyfriend asks her to marry him, Josh gets upset and runs away. When Buddy leaves to follow him he’s caught and thrown in a cage along with a number of other circus animals.
With the help of his coach, Josh learns that he’s happy that his mom is happy and he wants her boyfriend to be part of their family – even if it means she will be getting remarried sooner than Josh wanted. Josh returns home, only to find that Buddy is missing.
Not only is Josh upset that his beloved pooch is gone, but so is the football team, who now thinks that they will be unable to win their game against the opponents without him.
But Buddy is one smart doggie, and he manages to get away from the circus-loving villains and heads straight to the game! Hurray!
We thought this movie was super cute, inspiring and fun! It’s a great movie for kids who love sports and dogs, and also for any kid having a hard time adjusting to a new member being added to their family. The movie shares a wonderful lesson about encouragement, believing in yourself, and accepting both yourself and others for who they are.
On this special edition DVD you will also find Sports Channel play-by-play from the Buddies – some of our favorite pups (Budderball, B-Dawg, Mudbud, Buddha, Rosebud).
