We just finished watching the Special Edition DVD of “My Neighbor Totoro” from director Hayao Miyazaki – and we have to say, we really liked it!
Not only are the characters super cute and their stories heartwarming, the adventures you get to watch on the DVD are exciting and different from any DVD you will watch!

The animated adventure is about two young girls, Satsuki and Mei, who just moved to a new house with their dad in the country, while their mother rests in the hospital to get better. They meet fun creatures living in their home and outside in their yard. These creatures help the girls entertain themselves throughout the day, and when the girls are in need, the creatures are right there to help out in any way that they can – including one creature that is part cat part bus who takes the girls when they need to get to the hospital quickly to check on their mother!

The girls favorite creature is named Totoro, and he is a giant furball who might not talk a whole lot but is very cute and friendly none the less! Totoro can only be seen through the eyes of a child, yet Satsuki and Mei’s parents believe that they really do see him.
The Special Edition, 2-Disc DVD has never-before-seen bonus features including:
- The World Of Ghibli – Visit My Neighbor Totoro In This Imaginative Interactive Experience!
- Storyboard Presentation Of The Movie

Film critic Roger Ebert has called the My Neighbor Totoro movie “one of the very few that come along that are magical for all ages.”
Actors who lend their voices to the movie include:
- Tim Daly
- Dakota Fanning
- Elle Fanning
- Lea Salonga
My Neighbor Totoro was released to DVD by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on March 2, 2010 and can be purchased for $29.99.

I personally thought the Disney remake of Totoro was a poor portrayal of what Hayao Miyazaki had planned for the audience. Not only are the voices severely different than the original, they also changed the script! I think they should have tried to remaster it to a higher quality than the original VHS tape but I think they did not do the movie any justice with their “improvements”. I watched this movie with my grandmother when I was little and I was highly disappointed by this DVD. I don’t suggest the Disney version, I suggest trying to find the FOX VIDEO version!
