Walt Disney Pictures latest release “Alice In Wonderland” is not your typical Disney movie, which we seem to be saying a lot lately as Disney is evolving, much as it should, into different directions that may or may not fit every age demographic. The Walt Disney Company may be growing with it’s audience, but at the same time still delivers it’s classic Disney movies like “The Princess and the Frog” which is coming to Disney Blu-ray and DVD March 16, 2010. Disney movies of all kinds capture the attention of most people because of their timeless beauty and imaginative story lines that transcend age demographics and capture everyone’s inner child.

Director Tim Burton (Big Fish, Batman) brings an eerie but imaginative story to a new light with an interesting storyline and whimsical characters that you can’t help but find a bit odd, but yet still command your full attention. Alice is played by the beautiful Mia Wasikowska who is a bit naive but has an adventurous spirit and imaginative heart that leads her to the depths of Underland where she is met by White Rabbit voiced by Michael Sheen, Dormouse voiced by Barbara Windsor and a cast of characters you have grown to enjoy including Cheshire Cat voiced by Stephen Fry, Blue Caterpillar voiced by Alan Rickman, White Queen played by Anne Hathaway, Red Queen played by Helena Bonham Carter who we will talk about a little later in the review and of course Mad Hatter played by the remarkable Johnny Depp who actually surprised us as we were not totally loving his character from the movies’ trailers.
After watching the movie in Disney Digital 3D we can’t imagine seeing it any other way. The world of Underland comes to life and it makes you feel as if your living a little piece of the movie yourself. When we first heard that they were making Alice In Wonderland in 3D there was a little apprehension as to how a movie like this could work, but after seeing the film we have to say we understand why a lot of movie studios are jumping on the 3D bandwagon to enrich their films.

Depp takes to many different voices and persona’s with Mad Hatter which gives you an eclectic mix of funny, serious and downright maddening feelings from the character but still humanizing him as a lovable person who at times may just be simply confused, which he most certainly is. Almost as mad in her own right is the Red Queen whose head is so large you can’t quite help but wonder how it sits atop her body. The Red Queen has the attention span of a small child and amuses herself with royal subjects that are just as peculiar as herself.

We have to say that the March Hare voiced by Paul Whitehouse made us laugh the most as he would throw his cups or whatever he had in his hands at the characters in a random yet non violent way who would then just brush it aside as if it was just the norm, but it did create much needed bits of comedic humor as the story can be quite serious at times.

If you haven’t seen Disney’s Alice In Wonderland yet we would have to say that it is one of the most peculiar Disney movies we have seen and we think that for the most part everyone will take something away from the film whether it’s the lovable characters, storyline or just that they experienced a different kind of movie making that only Tim Burton can bring to life with his imaginative creative team.
