Miley Cyrus And Nicholas Sparks “The Last Song”

Yesterday, March 11th, USA Today ran an article about Miley Cyrus and Nicholas Sparks’ upcoming movie “The Last Song.”

Nicholas Sparks has turned out a number of book to movie projects including:
– “The Notebook”
– “A Walk To Remember”
– “Dear John”
– and now “The Last Song”

But while many of these movies would be considered Romantic, Nicholas told the newspaper that he didn’t want his books titled as such:

“If you look for me, I’m in the fiction section. Romance has its own section. I don’t write romance novels. Love stories — it’s a very different genre. I would be rejected if I submitted any of my novels as romance novels.”

Nicholas’ latest book to movie opens in theaters on March 31st and stars Disney’s Miley Cyrus and her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth – who she met on the set of the movie.

So how did Nicholas get this movie started? He couldn’t do it alone and he began to talk with Disney and their Touchstone Pictures studio:

“It was not greenlit from the moment they got me on the project. She [Miley] had to like it at the end, and Disney had to like it at the end.”

Miley obviously liked the story as she said yes to being in the film before she even finished reading the book! She said:

“With the book, I’ve only gotten through part of The Last Song. Because the movie started first.”

Nicholas responded:

“I don’t know if I ever watched a Hannah Montana show. … Nothing personal. My daughters do every day.”

While Miley laughed:

“‘Nothing personal. I just hate her show.'”

We’re so glad that Miley will be in this movie, and we were excited to read in the USA Today interview that Miley had a lot to do with her character in the film:

“It’s got things I would like. Even the name — I picked ‘Ronnie’ for my granddad. Things like that. But it was not written to make it easy for me, either.”
