By next January, Walt Disney Studios’ plan is to close Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers Digital Studio in California.
Disney is closing down the studio in an effort to save money, as 450 employees will lose their jobs and production on all of the studios projects will cease.
Alan Bergman, Disney Studios president, released the statement: “Given today’s economic realities, we need to find alternative ways to bring creative content to audiences and IMD no longer fits into our business model.”
Even though Walt Disney Studios is closing ImageMovers Digital Studio, the company hopes to create a long term production deal with Robert Zemeckis and his ImageMovers Digital partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey.
The two studios are teaming up to remake the film “Yellow Submarine.”
