ABC’s LOST Season 6 Episode 13 Recap “The Last Recruit”

April 20, 2010 |  by

Tonight’s episode of LOST is titled “The Last Recruit.”

We begin on the island where the two sides of the island have met up with each other. Jack and “Locke” have a private talk that even Hurley wont join in on, even though it was his idea to find “Locke” in the first place.

Jack tells “Locke” that it bothers him he doesn’t know “what he is,” and he asks “Why Locke?” Turns out it’s partly because Jack brought Locke to the island in his casket – meaning the smoke monster can only inhabit bodies that have passed away (and are on the island?).

Jack finally wakes up and realizes that the smoke monster may have turned up in the form of his father – yes! “Locke” says he is interested in helping Jack leave the island. But because Jacob made him a candidate he was stuck here. “Locke” also says that they can’t leave until everyone leaves together.

“John Locke was not a believer, Jack, he was a sucker.”

Flash sideways to Ben, concernedly leaning over Locke in the ambulance after Desmond has run him over with his car – we’re not sure why he did that yet.

Flash to Sun heading into the same hospital, and she recognizes Locke! Sun is pregnant and has been shot and all she is concerned about is watching Locke and frantically telling Jin “It’s him, it’s him.” So she remembers the island too?

Flash back to the island where Claire followed Jack and “Locke” and tells them that she is Jack’s brother. Claire also tells Jack that he will be staying with them, which was decided the moment Jack talked to “Locke.” So what sort of power does “Locke” have over everyone to make them do what he wants after they talk to him? Is this the same reason that Sayid was told by the man at the temple that he had to kill “Locke” before he let him talk to him, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to do it? But Claire might be wrong about “Locke’s” powers, as our favorite Losties are planning an escape from “Locke’s” camp and from the island.

Flash to the sideways universe where Sawyer has brought Kate into the police station after catching her in a stolen vehicle. Sawyer remembers her from the airport, but he doesn’t remember her from the island yet. Although, he does think its “weird” that he knows her already.

“It’s almost like someone’s trying to put us together.”

Kate hits the nail on the head when she tells Sawyer that he went to Australia and didn’t arrest her in the elevator at the airport because he didn’t want anyone to know he had gone on a trip – interesting! Oh and now Sawyer and Miles are after Sayid.

Back on the island “Locke” is being threatened by the woman from Widmore’s sub – she wants what they took – Desmond! So will they let him out of the well?

BTW, we think that Desmond might be able to jump back and forth between the island reality and the sideways reality, and that’s why he ran “Locke” over in his car in the flash sideways – what are your guesses?

Flash sideways to Claire pregnant and still trying to give her child up for adoption. Desmond finds her there. Desmond wants Claire to use a lawyer for her adoption – but who is it? Ilana! And she recognizes her!

Illana says she has been looking for Claire.

“Locke” is trying to get everyone off of the island in groups. Sawyer and Jack are working together again. Or, Sawyer’s telling Jack what to do. He has to try to get to the new meet up point Sawyer specified.

Woah now, hold on. “Locke” tells Sayid he has to kill Desmond. But will he do it?

Flash sideways to Sayid running back into his home and packing now that he is being sought after by the police. Miles shows up at the front door before he even has a chance to explain to Nadia what he did and Sawyer catches him as he runs out the back door. Sneaky Sawyer!

Back on the island Sawyer explains the plan to Kate and she is upset that Claire ins’t involved. Sawyer makes a good point though “Do you really want her around Aaron?” Does that mean Kate will continue to be Aaron’s mom? We really like Claire in the flash sideways because she’s back to her old self, if the Losties stay in their island form she’s the one we will be most upset about.

In the other group Jack talks to Claire about why she trusts “Locke,” “because he’s the only one who didn’t abandon me.”

Jack heads off to follow Sawyer’s plan, leaving a very upset looking Claire behind – uh oh.

“Locke” meets up with Sayid, who tells him that he killed Desmond – but we’re not sure we believe him!

Jack and his team find Sawyer, but it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere too fast. Claire pulls a gun on them all. Kate begs Claire to come with them so she can see Aaron again. But Claire has some words of wisdom for them “If he ["Locke"] finds out we’re gone, he’s going to be mad.”

Jack shows up at the same building Claire is at to get his fathers will read, by Ilana. Turns out that’s why Claire is there – because it was her father too. Jack doesn’t know this in the flash sideways. Jack gets called away from the meeting to go to the emergency at the hospital (aka Locke).

Flash to the island where Sawyer says that his plan is to head to Hydra island and find Widmore and try to get off of the island. We love that Sawyer is back to calling Kate “Freckles.”

Jack tells Sawyer that leaving the island doesn’t feel right. “We were brought here because we were supposed to do something.”

Jack also says that if “Locke” wants them to leave, maybe he’s afraid of what will happen if they don’t leave. “The island’s not done with us yet.

And there goes Jack, right over the side of the boat. Kind of reminiscent of the time when Sawyer jumped out of the helicopter and swam back to the island.

Flash to Sun in the hospital with Jin right by her side. And the baby is fine!

A few doors over Jack is going to see Locke who’s in surgery. Jack sees Locke and recognizes him – but does he recognize him from the airport or the island?

Flash to “Locke” on the island as Jack swims back on shore.

On the other side of the island Sun and Jin are reunited!!!!! And her English comes back!

Uh oh, Widmore doesn’t want them on Sawyer and his group on Hydra island – why not? Widmore begins to fire on the other island, and Jack is blown into the air after which “Locke” picks him up and brings him to safety telling him it will all be alright, “You’re with me now.” Please tell us that doesn’t mean Jack is dead?!

Let’s discuss!

  1. I doubt Jack is dead or that he is with Locke. Desmond has started to “turn” Sayid. Remember, Ben was the only one who could kill Jacob because of the “loophole” in the “Rules”. The loophole could be that only one who was restored to life could kill the one who restored him. That would make Sayid, Locke’s potential killer.

Dead Jacob wanted Jack away from Locke when he attacked the Temple. If Jack can stay on the island, Locke may not be able to leave it. Sayid could reject Locke and it may cost him his life, but then he would be re-united with his wife in death. Remember Ecko’s death. We were given a brief glimpse of him re-uniting with his brother.

  2. i think jack may be remembering John from the coffin. this scene reminded me of the scene John lying dead in coffin and Jack looking at him. don’t you think so?

  3. I dont think jack is dead, what locke said, i assume that the devil’s way of saying-”you owe me your soul” or something like that.

and i dont think anyone around there could kill locke, the candidates can control him like jacob did for years/centuries , its my opinion, desmond and the alternate timeline must be the key to do so
