Ad Age broke down the huge marketing campaign put out by Marvel and Paramount for the upcoming movie “Iron Man 2″ starring Robert Downey Jr.
While the movie may not hit theaters until May 7th a number of advertising strategies have been employed to get fans excited for the film. Turns out there has been over $100 million spent on the marketing campaign!
Below are just some of the sponsors involved in helping the movie build a name for itself before appearing in theaters:
Audi
Audi appears in the film via its R8 Spyder vehicle that character Tony Stark drives in. Other cars from the Audi line will be seen in the movie as well.
Burger King
Beginning on April 26th the fast food restaurant will offer a new sandwich called the “Whiplash Whopper” as well as 8 toys branded from the “Iron Man 2″ film. Four of these toys will be for boys while four of them will be for girls. The company will also roll out a number of television ads promoting the movie and the restaurant tie in. 7-Eleven
As we talked about before, 7-Elevn is rolling out a number of branded cups and straws to promote “Iron Man 2″ and it’s drink products. There is also a new sweepstakes called “Live Like a Billionaire Sweepstakes” which promotes the film and the 7-Eleven drink Slurpee. The company will also roll out web and radio ads as well as TV ads in store.
Land O’Frost
Land O’Frost lunch meats are pushing the “Iron Man 2″ movie with sweepstakes, TV ads, and print ads. They will also be supplying life-size Tony Stark standees to stores to use near the lunch meat display.
Dr. Pepper
Dr. Pepper has already rolled out 14 collectible cans and a series of television ads featuring “Iron Man” creator Stan Lee.
LG Electronics
LG Electronics will be teaming with “Iron Man 2″ to roll out television ads, in-store placement circular ads, digital and mobil ads, and a retail incentive program. In addition, LG Mobile will be giving away a limited edition “Iron Man 2″ comic book with LG handset purchases at Verizon Wireless stores.
Hershey’s
Hershey’s Reese’s peanut-butter cups is sponsoring a sweepstakes offering fans a chance to win a role in an upcoming Marvel movie. The company has also created “Iron Man 2″-branded packaging for its products.
Oracle
The Oracle software company has rolled out a series of outdoor and print ads that feature screenshots of “Iron Man”-themed Oracle ad as part of the Wall Street Journal’s iPad app.
Royal Purple
Royal Purple is the preferred motor oil in the film of Stark Motor Racing. At key events in April and May the Royal Purple company will debut fully-wrapped co-branded race cars with Royal Purple/Iron Man 2 wraps. Royal Purple products will also have “Iron Man 2″ labels and the company will be rolling out TV and retail ads.
Symantec
The company that makes the Norton AntiVirus software will co-brand it’s new 2010 Norton line of AntiVirus and Internet Security products. The tie-in will have a custom comic book and a sweepstakes as well as in-store merchandise displays and online, print and social media advertising.
