The Walt Disney Company is selling back the Power Rangers franchise to media mogul Haim Saban who sold the characters to the Disney Company in 2001.
After Disney did not put a major push on the Power Ranger characters, Haim decided to take them back and bring them over to Nickelodeon – which will soon air both old and recent shows of the Power Ranger series. There is also speculation that there will be a Power Rangers movie soon!
Disney spokesperson Jonathan Friedland said about the Power Rangers:
From our perspective, it just doesn’t fit in our long-term programming strategy or with the Disney brand.
The terms of the agreement between the Walt Disney Company and Haim have not yet been released.
Nickelodeon President Cyma Zarghami said about the Power Rangers:
When a property is able to sustain an audience for the number of seasons that this one has, it’s hard to do, and it’s hard to do it from scratch. I think it is no small feat to have been able to sustain that kind of longevity and I think it’s really exciting to be able to keep it going.
