A new show will be hitting the Disney Channel this Fall 2010 called “Shake It Up!” The show was originally set to be titled “Dance, Dance, Chicago,” but according to reports the name has changed. The show will begin filming in July in Hollywood, California.
The show was created by Chris Thompson (“Laverne and Shirley,” “Bosom Buddies,” “The Naked Truth,” “Action”) and executive-produced by Thompson and Rob Lotterstein (“The War at Home,” “Ellen”).
The lead star of the show is Bella Thorne (“Big Love”), who guest starred in an episode of the Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Channels Worldwide said about the show:
Newcomers Bella Thorne and Zendaya make for one of the most likable and engaging BFF duos we’ve ever seen. And while buddy comedies have been around since the start of television, what makes ‘Shake It Up’ unique is that this is the first time anyone has incorporated dancing into the underlying premise of a sitcom.
The show will be about two characters, CeCe Jones and Raquel “Rocky” Blue, who dream of becoming professional dancers. They become background dancers on the most popular teen dance show “Shake It Up, Chicago,” and have to learn a bunch of new dance moves, while at the same time taking part in a number of new adventures!
Actors in the show include:
- Bella Thorne as CeCe Jones
- Zendaya as Raquel “Rocky” Blue
- Kenton Duty (“Lost”) as Gunther
- Adam Irigoyen (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) as Deuce
- Davis Cleveland (“Good Luck Charlie,” “Desperate Housewives”) as Flynn Jones

My daughter, Kaylee just got finished with a cheer competition at Jamfest last night in Evansville, Indiana and she was part of a contest for this TV show. She loves Disney and she got to dance for 30 seconds. She was chose out of a bunch of other girls to go on stage…onstage SHE KILLED IT. She did the transformer while all the other girls did cheer moves…Unfortunatly, when at jamfest onstage, they let the crowd choose the winner. We are a small gymn and didnt have enough people to cheer for her…while 3/4 of the crowd was either this red team, or this blue team. So it was between these two groups f girls who didnt dance very good. Im glad some little girls won some prizes, but I didnt think Disney was represented well by Jamfest who caters to larger gymns no matter how good your team is.
