When the winner is announced on Wednesday’s American Idol finale be ready for the lucky guy or gal to yell “I’m going to Disney Word!” shortly after being crowned the winner.
Word is that either Lee DeWyze or Crystal Bowersox will sing the popular Disney song “When You Wish Upon A Star” for a Disney commercial that is set to air on television within hours of the AI finale and that Disney cameras will be on hand to capture the winners announcement that they are going to the park – but why?
Well, this is all a very clever marketing tactic to get viewers of the show excited about “The American Idol Experience” attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida – which is the first major theme-park attraction in the world based on a television series.
So, do you think this promotion will work?

They’ve been doing this for years with their post-Superbowl ads. If nothing else, the fans like it, and have come to expect it. I’m sure there are a few fans who will likely come to see whoever the eventual winner is at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. What I’ve found surprising this year, is the lack of any mention whatsoever to the American Idol Experience at DHS. I would’ve thought this would at least been mentioned once, but I guess Fox/Disney couldn’t agree on a price for advertising the new attraction.
