Hurray! ABC Family has acquired the basic-cable rights to all five seasons of the hit show Friday Night Lights! The channel will begin airing episodes this September.
The show is about a competitive Texas high school football team, the Dillon Panthers, and every season the show gets better and better. The show is currently in it’s fourth season, and according to reports the fifth season will be its last.
Tom Zappala, ABC Cable Networks’ Executive Vice President of Program Acquisitions and Scheduling, said about ABC acquiring the rights to air Friday Night Lights:
We’re thrilled to add NBC’s critically acclaimed series Friday Night Lights to the mix of our defining original and quality acquired series. The series is beloved by critics and viewers, and fits in perfectly with ABC Family’s blend of optimistic, heartfelt programming.
We are addicted to this show and really think you should tune in to watch from the beginning on ABC Family if you are not already an avid viewer!

I was so thrilled when I saw that Friday Night Lights was coming to ABC Family and enjoyed seeing the beginning again. I’ve long thought of it as possibly the best family drama ever on TV and a second viewing underscored that thinking. Great writing, great characters — even character development, virtually unheard of previously on television. So imagine my disappointment that we didn’t even get through season two before it was yanked off the schedule. Please bring it back.
