Yesterday the Disney Channel aired the new music video for Miley Cyrus‘ “Ordinary Girl” song from the fourth and final season of “Hannah Montana,” which is named “Hannah Montana Forever” and will begin airing soon on the Disney Channel.
We understand the concept of the song – with Miley having to make a choice between continuing to be superstar Hannah Montana or dropping the alter ego and concentrating on being herself, an ordinary girl. We even understand the concept of the video – with the use of black and white it makes the message hard to miss.
But what we don’t understand is why there are no live clips of Miley/Hannah. The only time you see her is in pre-recorded clips from the show. And in the very beginning when you see Hannah in the makeup chair getting ready for the concert and then you see her walk on stage, you’ll notice that you never once see her face – so the likelihood of it actually being Miley in the video is low.
We love the song and like the video. But we’d like the whole package a bit more if Miley was actually in it…what about you?

We understand the message of Miley wanting to be an ordinary girl and struggling to decide whether she wants to be a superstar. But would the fans still get that message if Miley’s actual face was shown in it? Or would fans be so consumed with Miley’s new look that they would miss the message?
I think Miley’s/Hannah’s face wasn’t shown because the video wasn’t about her. She gave the camera away so that a part of her could live out vicariously through an ordinary girl. The “power” of Hannah Montana gave the different girls strength.
I think it would have made more sense had the camera come back to Hannah at the end of the video.
Meghan / Marcellis, love your comments, that Miley not appearing in the video was because it was not about her. The video was really powerful for me – the stark absence of Miley from the video really drove home the message.

I love the song, but not so much the video. It was like Disney couldn’t get Miley to be in her own video or something. Maybe it wasn’t in her contract. Wish Hannah Montana wasn’t ending. They could have went a few seasons with Miley in High School and then on to College. There are lots of people older than her on Disney Channel. I love Miley songs, but Hannah songs were great too.
She isn’t in the new Que Sara video either, it just seems like if she signed a contract to be Hannah Montana, then she should be in the Hannah Montana videos even if the show no longer airs. I think, anyway.

Personally, I think she’s not in her resent videos because she refused to. I understand her want to move away from her good-girl Hannah Montana image, but only recording the songs, not even appearing in her own videos, is lazy and kind of a let down. I loved Hannah/Miley when she first came out with “True Friends”, it still pops into my mind and I find myself singing it in the shower, but her new image is really making me loose my faith in her. What is happening to all of our girl-next-door Disney stars?? (Britney going crazy, Vanessa’s nude picture scandle, Demi’s rehab…) This is why I watched Blue Clues when I was little!
