We got the chance to chat with Shane Harper! Check out our interview with the Disney star below and be sure to contact Shane with any questions YOU might have for him!
How did you get your start in the industry?
“When I was younger I started doing musical theater when I was about nine, and also dancing. I love dancing and I had been doing it for a while, and when I was at a dance competition when I was 13 one of the judges on the panel was an agent and they asked to sign me. When I was 15 a manager found me and asked if I was interested in acting.”
You’re a triple threat, you sing, you dance, you act, but do you prefer any one of these over the others?
“I feel like I really love them all, it’s hard to choose. I would love to do everything – I would really love to do a feature film musical because I would get to do all three which is kind of the pinnacle. If I could keep all three up constantly during my career I would be more than thrilled.”
Your new song “Dance With Me” is currently being voted on by Radio Disney listeners, what would you like to tell the listeners about the song?”
“‘Dance With Me’ is actually a really special song for me – it’s the first song I ever wrote in its entirety, so it’s really fun! I really appreciate all the support, it’s really doing great on the Radio Disney Music Mailbag. The song is special for me because dancing is kind of where this whole thing started for me and that’s kind of the whole reference point of the song ‘Dance With Me.’”
How would you describe your music in one sentence?
“It’s kind of an acoustic pop sound with catchy hooks.”
Do you have a debut album in the works?
“I’m working on my debut EP, or record, I’m not sure which one yet. I’m currently in the studio, and we’re still working on the name.”
What is your favorite song currently playing on the radio?
“Ridin’ Solo [by Jason Derulo]. I didn’t like it at first and then it started growing on me. I really love that song!”
Can you tell us about your character on Disney’s “Good Luck Charlie?”
“I play the character Spencer Walsh. He is the love interest for Bridgit Mendler’s character, and throughout the entire series you get to see the ups and downs of their relationship and what we go through. He has a lot of depth and as the show progresses you’ll get to learn about his character and you’ll get to meet his family.”
If you could guest star on any Disney Channel show, past or present, which would it be?
“‘Even Stevens’ all the way! That was my favorite show when I was younger. It’s my dream to work with Shia LaBeouf – I’m a big fan, I think he’s great, and that show was special. It had a unique chemistry about it and it had a fusion of perfect comedy and real life drama.”
Do you hang out with any of the other Disney Channel stars outside of work?
“I’m friends with Alyson Stoner and Debby Ryan and the cast of ‘Good Luck Charlie.’ We’re all really close and hang out quite a bit off set.”
What’s your favorite fan story?
“We were on an escalator and I was going down and she [the fan] was going up, and she pulled a camera out of her bag and took a picture of me and I was passing by. It was so weird. That was the most unique thing that’s ever happened to me. She got off the escalator and just kept walking.”
Where do you want to be in ten years?
“I feel in ten years I would love to have a platinum record. I dream big! Hopefully I’ll have at least three albums out by that time and I’ll have successful music that people love, and I also want to star in my own movies! I love film and I’d love to do as many films as possible. And I’d love to be in an action movie, I would love to be in a superhero movie, really any superhero. Superman would be cool. Batman would be cool. I was hoping for Captain America, but they’re doing that now.”
Do you have a favorite Disney movie?
“My favorite Disney movie is a musical, I don’t think it’s extremely well known – ‘Newsies,’ that movie inspired me. I did that movie as a play when I was 12 and I booked the lead as Jack Kelly in the play!”
