Let us just begin by saying that you have to see this movie, if only to see the dancing. It’s amazing. Every one of the dancers is incredible and the dance battle scenes are jaw-dropping.
But as for the plot…
We’re not sure if it was because we attended an early screening of the movie, but the entire audience was howling during certain points in the film that were meant to be serious. And to be honest, it was a bit difficult to take some of the plot seriously, but we think that was an issue with how the script was written…as in the movie seemed a bit scripted.
However, the fact that Alyson Stoner was in the movie really pushed us to go and see it. We love her in “Camp Rock” and we have followed her ever since she was a dancer in one of Missy Elliot’s music videos. But, Alyson is a MUCH better dancer than they had her act in “Step Up 3D.” She’s incredible and we can’t wait to see her in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” so we can compare her dancing between films. In the plot of the movie Alyson was meant to be a “good” dancer, while her love interest, “Moose,” played by Adam Sevani, was meant to be a “great” dancer, but we say let Alyson dance!
The music in the movie was great and really got the audience involved – at least our audience, who was clapping along with the beat during every dance battle. The music really helped to boost the impact the dance scenes had on the audience. “Step Up 3D” is like watching a really great music video and we can’t wait to get the “Step Up 3D” Soundtrack so we can practice our own dance moves at home!
As for the 3D aspect of the film, it really enhanced the scenes and it was done in a way that we really weren’t expecting. The 3D is in your face throughout the movie, but isn’t overpowering. We’re not fans of 3D in every type of movie, but we can’t imagine this movie without it.
All in all, everyone’s review of the movie is going to be a bit different, depending on what you’re looking for in it. If you want to see some epic dance scenes, then you’re going to love it. If you’re looking for that ever-so-romantic plot between Alyson and Adam that was promised, well, then you might be pleasantly surprised, but if you’re looking for a dramatic plot with riveting twists and turns, you’re probably not in luck.
We would recommend the movie to you no matter who you are because we thought it was fun and we enjoyed ourselves at the theater. We think that you’ll be able to relate to the characters and that you’ll really get into the dance battles and be rooting for the team that you want to win. Be sure to let us know if you check out “Step Up 3D” in theaters when it arrives on August 6th – and definitely come back and share your review with us!
