Popular actor Matthew Fox, who played Jack Shephard on ABC’s hit series “LOST,” is set to star in a new movie called “Mass Effect.”
Not many details about the movie have been released, however the movie is slated for a 2012 release. All we know so far is that in the movie mankind discovers an ancient alien technology that enables travel faster than the speed of light – so what will mankind find when they use this type of travel?
We get so excited when we hear about our favorite Losties’ new projects! We’ll keep you posted
UPDATE: We’re not very familiar with the video game Mass Effect, which the movie is said to be based on, so if you have any information on the game be sure to comment here and let our readers know!

This isn’t true. And Mass Effect, it seems, is a blockbuster video game franchise.
Play the epic game. You’ll get an idea what the movie’s about.
I think you have this wrong… this is only fan speculation, and the fact that his name on IMDB says his next project will be Mass Effect is also just fan editing.
Also, the main character in Mass Effect, his name is Commander Shepard… So maybe a bit of a mix-up on your part?
Anyhow, besides the name, the base model of Commander Shepard looks very much like Matthew Fox, and I think Matthew Fox may make a good Commander Shepard… so I’m okay with this actually being true, but I don’t think it’s true… yet
It’s based on an extremely popular video game, “Mass Effect”…
Try using google next time…
It’s only one of the most popular video games of the past 3 years…
If you simply googled Mass Effect you wouldn’t seem so retarded… can we even call you a journalist?
Hehehehe Jack Shepard from Lost is playing John Shepard in Mass Effect 2?
Cooooooooooool!
If the author of this article is correct, then the plot of the movie is accurate with the canon of the Mass Effect universe. Having played both video games “Mass Effect” & “Mass Effect 2″, it makes sense. In the games, humanity discovered an ancient alien technology on Mars and that led humans to something called a “Mass Effect Relay” which laid dormant somewhere beyond Pluto. This relay is what allows FTL and by using it, they encounter an alien race known as the Turians. A war breaks out, which came to be known as the First Contact War.
maybe the movie will be a prequel
Let’s put it this way: go to a videogame store, buy an Xbox 360 and buy Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.
Then set up the whole thing in your living room and put the Mass Effect disc on the console’s drive and start playing.
Let us know when your balls and your jaw felt to the floor when you got paralised by the magnificence of the series.
Disclaimer: May result in the lost of track of time from the addiction caused by playing one of the best series ever.
And now that we’re on the subject… try Halo whenever you can
very nice . very good
Ignore the idiots who seem to believe that every non-gamer in the world would know about the video game series. The (two) games are sci-fi action games, and they’ve been compared to the Star Wars movies by several video game journalists. Like Star Wars, they could be called “space operas”, and they are definitely fit for a movie adaption.
What’s your source on this? If it’s just the IMDb listing, then it’s not confirmed, as that site allows user edits. But Fox definitely could play Commander Shepard, and would be my first choice for the role.
And can we all just stop saying “Mankind.” It’s 2010.
The setting of Mass Effect is a great mix of different SciFi-Franchises, especially Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. As a fan of all these franchises you will see similarities. But the writers of Mass Effect created a whole new universe.
The background story is that humantiy discovered alien ruins on Mars which has been a scientific outpost of an extinct alien species called the Protheans. In these ruins scientists discovered the so called Mass Effect technology that allowed humantiy to travel to the stars. They also discovered that the Pluto moon Charon was a Mass Relay (some kind of Stargate for Spacecraft). Through the relay humanity eventually got contact to alien species, and was invited to the Citadel, a giant space station and heart of galactic society. Humanity’s rise in the galactic society was very fast and not all species were happy about it.
However, in Mass Effect Special Forces Operative Commander Shepard discovers evidence that the Protheans I mentioned above have not just disappeared and gone extinct. They were in fact wiped out by a race of sentient machines called the Reapers, giant metallic-organic beings waiting in dark space, the vast emptiness between the galaxies. Every 50.000 years the Reapers swarm across the galaxy and harvest all organic life.
@JackAsstro A real man would not relinquish the authority that God gave him. Men have authority (and responsibility) over women. This is a fact of life. So, I will never stop saying “Mankind”.
Regarding the movie, this is a rumor. The main character in Mass Effect is John Shepard who happens to look like Jack from Lost.
lol…not this cry baby
try using google next time you post a thing you never heard about
@Remington
Sorry, but I just have to do one correction. “Every 50.000 years the Reapers swarm across the galaxy and harvest all organic life.”
That should be “… harvest all sentient life”, right?
Otherwise there wouldn’t be any time for life to rebuild.
Cheers!
Mass Effect is an awesome game. It is also very non-linear. So is the sequel.
You also have the choice to make Shepard a woman instead of a man.
FEMALE SHEPARD IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER. In both games. Why would anyone choose to make a movie with a male Shep? It’s so predictable and so trite. Oh yes the big tough man fighting through space.
FemShep is so much better. :/
I think this movie will fail anyway. Movies like this always do.
Hamsterjoi, we don’t think every non-gamer needs to know everything about Mass Effect, just that someone who writes and posts an article on the interweb should do a teeny, tiny bit of research, whatever the subject about it is. Just google “Mass Effect”… try it…. The author would have found more than enough info to get an idea of what it’s about if she did.
Jackastro, if not “mankind” what? HuMANkind???
Mass Effect is one of the best videogames ever invented (RPG).
All of this comes from wikipedia:
“Mass Effect is set in the year 2183 AD. Thirty-five years prior, humankind discovered a cache of technology on Mars, supposedly built by a technologically advanced but long-extinct race called the Protheans. Studying and adapting this technology, humanity has managed to break free of the solar system and has established numerous colonies and encountered various extraterrestrial species within the Milky Way galaxy. Utilizing alien artifacts known as Mass Relays, the various space-faring races are able to travel instantly across vast stretches of the galaxy. Within the game, humanity has formed the Human Systems Alliance, one of many independent bodies that make up the collective of “Citadel space”.
The Human Systems Alliance is a rising power in the galactic stage. The only war they have participated in was the “First Contact War” in 2157. A human exploration expedition was activating dormant mass relays (which was a practice considered unsafe by citadel races). The turians attacked the small fleet and proceeded to capture the closest human world, Shanxi. The turians proceeded to starve out the remaining humans and occupy the planet. Facing starvation the human garrison surrendered to the Turian Hierarchy. One month later, the human Second Fleet responded by annihilating the turian fleet around Shanxi. In response the turians prepared for full scale war. The citadel council saw that humanity would either be annihilated or annexed by the turians and stepped in. The humans were then given an embassy in the Citadel Council.
Citadel space, as a whole, is ruled by a body of government known as the Council, which is made up of members of the three prominent alien races: the asari, a race of mono-gendered aliens which closely resemble blue-skinned human females; the short-lived salarians; and the raptor-like turians. Other alien species seen in the game include the reptilian krogan, the four-eyed, humanoid batarians, the aquatic hanar, and the methodical and quadrupedal elcor, and the environmental-suited quarians and volus. Dozens of other aliens are asserted to exist throughout the galaxy, but are not seen or mentioned in the game.
The game takes place primarily in two locations: the prototype frigate SSV Normandy, and the Citadel, a gigantic, ancient space station purportedly built by the Protheans and which currently acts as the center of galactic civilization. Throughout the game, however, the player may navigate the Normandy to various planets, moons and other destinations.”
“The game begins aboard the experimental SSV Normandy, commanded by Captain Anderson and his executive officer, Commander Shepard. The Normandy is sent to the human colony world of Eden Prime to recover an unearthed Prothean beacon. To assist in recovering the beacon, the Citadel Council, the galaxy’s primary governing body, has sent one of their top agents, a turian “Spectre”, named Nihlus.
A small team consisting of Nihlus, Shepard, biotic Kaidan Alenko, and the quickly-killed Corporal Jenkins, who is replaced by Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams, discover that the Eden Prime colony is under attack by alien synthetic life-forms known as the geth, led by a rogue turian Spectre named Saren Arterius, who kills Nihlus. After the battle ends, Shepard locates the beacon and receives a vision. While initially struggling to understand the vision, it turns out to be images of biological creatures being slaughtered by machines.
The Normandy and its crew are summoned by Ambassador Udina, the Alliance’s representative on the Citadel, to the Citadel station to report on the matter. Unfortunately, Shepard is unable to convince the Citadel Council of Saren’s treason without solid evidence. Citadel Security officer Garrus Vakarian and krogan mercenary Urdnot Wrex lead Shepard to a quarian mechanic named Tali’Zorah nar Rayya, who possesses a recording of a conversation between Saren and an asari Matriarch named Benezia, discussing their victory on Eden Prime. The recording also mentions the return of a force known as the Reapers, as well as an artifact called the “Conduit.” Confronted with this evidence, the Council revokes Saren’s status as a Spectre. They then make Shepard the first human Spectre so that he or she can legally hunt down Saren alongside his or her squad, consisting of Kaidan, Ashley, Garrus, Wrex, and Tali.
Command of the Normandy is given to Shepard, who uses the ship to follow up on several leads provided by Anderson and Udina. On Therum in the Artemis Tau Cluster, Shepard finds and rescues Dr. Liara T’soni, Matriarch Benezia’s daughter, who is an expert on the Protheans and joins Shepard’s squad. On Feros, Shepard fights off an army of geth and destroys an ancient life form known as the Thorian, a sentient plant-like creature that has the power to control whoever inhales its spores. Shepard also learns of Saren’s flagship, Sovereign, which seems to possess unique mind-control capabilities. On Noveria, Shepard tracks down Matriarch Benezia while fighting off both geth and alien insects known as rachni. Benezia is eventually defeated, and she reveals that her mind is not being controlled by Saren, but that her and Saren’s mind are being controlled by Sovereign. She soon reverts to Sovereign’s control, and resumes attacking Shepard at which point Shepard is forced to kill her.
After completing two of the previous three planets, Shepard learns a salarian infiltration unit has uncovered one of Saren’s bases on the planet Virmire. Once he/she arrives, Shepard learns the base is being used to breed an army of krogan warriors. When Wrex finds out that Saren found a cure for the genophage, which makes krogan breeding nearly impossible, and that Shepard wants to destroy it, he briefly considers betraying them for Saren. Depending on the player’s actions, Shepard either talks him down, kills him with Ashley’s help, or if the player has enough Charm skill, he can avoid killing Wrex. Either way, with the salarians’ assistance Shepard assaults the base to detonate a nuclear device inside its walls. Inside the base Shepard discovers another Prothean beacon, which transfers its knowledge to him or her.
Shepard is then confronted by Sovereign itself, which reveals that it is what the Protheans and geth consider to be a Reaper. Sovereign reveals the true terrible nature of the Reapers and their designs. The Reapers are patient predators that remain inert for millenia as organic life develops, allowing these species to discover the mass relays (themselves constructs of the Reapers) and expand throughout the galaxy along those pre-existing routes. Once these races have reached a certain level of expansion, the Reapers awaken and sweep across the galaxy rapaciously, always discovered by their prey far too late to effect any defense. In truth, the Protheans were not the originators of interstellar travel and galactic civilization, but rather were merely just another in a long succession of hapless races systematically sowed and harvested by the Reapers as part of an inexorable cycle that has gone unabated for eons. Sovereign sees Shepard and his kind as no different from those that have come and gone before.
After planting the nuclear bomb and attempting to escape the facility, the team is attacked by Saren. He explains that he has allied himself with the Reapers to save organic life by making it “useful” to the Reapers. Shepard refuses to accept Saren’s plan, and escapes Virmire before the nuclear warhead is detonated, at the cost of either Kaidan’s or Ashley’s life.
With the information Shepard’s party has gained, Liara is able to pinpoint the Conduit’s location on a Prothean world known as Ilos, a planet accessible only by a long-lost Mass Relay located deep within the hostile Terminus Systems. Shepard returns to the Citadel to request permission from the Council to pursue Saren, but Shepard’s request is denied by the Council, who consider the existence of the Reapers too unclear to risk a war with the Terminus Systems. Ambassador Udina locks Shepard out of the Normandy, but Captain Anderson steps in and helps Shepard steal the ship back.
On the surface of Ilos, Shepard follows Saren into an ancient bunker deep within the planet, and encounters a Prothean computer system named Vigil, which explains the Reapers’ methodology. Vigil explains that the Protheans on Ilos put themselves in underground preservation chambers in order to escape their destruction by the Reapers. Vigil also explains that the Citadel Station is actually a massive mass relay facility built by the Reapers to summon them from the dark space outside the galaxy. The Prothean researchers on Ilos created the Conduit, a miniaturized Mass Relay that allowed them to travel to the heart of the Citadel. Once inside, they sabotaged the process that would summon the Reapers. Sovereign planned to have Saren use the Conduit to storm the Citadel with a geth army past the outer defenses, and activate the Citadel’s Mass Relay manually.
Shepard pursues Saren through the Conduit. At the same time, Sovereign and a massive geth fleet assault the Citadel. Sovereign lands on the central tower of the Citadel and begins activating the relay, while Saren uses the Citadel’s defense systems to protect it. Shepard fights through a geth army, then meeting up with Saren. In this confrontation, Saren explains how he had Sovereign implant him. The player can either kill Saren in combat, or convince him that he’s making a mistake, prompting him to commit suicide. The Human Systems Alliance fleet arrives to reinforce the Council fleets, while Shepard exposes Sovereign to attack. At this point, Shepard has a choice between ordering the Alliance fleet to save the Council or go directly after Sovereign. Saren’s corpse then reanimates under Sovereign’s direct control through the use of cybernetic implants, and begins attacking Shepard while the Alliance attacks Sovereign itself. Sovereign is eventually destroyed by the Normandy’s main gun, and the reanimated Saren corpse disintegrates.
The precise ending of the game depends on several factors, including whether or not Shepard opts to save the Council during the final battle, and whether Shepard has a higher Paragon or Renegade meter. If Shepard chooses to save the Council, the Council will thank the humans for sacrificing many lives to save them, and let the humans join the Council. If the player chooses to let the Council die, humans, due to their bravery will be looked up to by the other species and, due to the Citadel’s weakened state, step up as the new galactic leader. If Shepard chooses “Concentrate on Sovereign,” the Council will die as well, although the player gets more Paragon points. At the end of the game, Shepard is also allowed to choose between Ambassador Udina or Captain Anderson as the new galactic leader or Council member in the aftermath. Regardless of the choice, the Council believes that the Geth threat is over. However, Shepard knows that the Reapers are still a threat and that they must be stopped. The scene is ended with Shepard walking away as Anderson or Udina make their speech.”
Hope this is enough
For any other information (like how damn EPIC this game is), buy the game on PC or xBox and play it. Only then can you grasp the sheer awesomeness of this game.
Guys…Shut up, Why are you all acting like jerks?
The term ‘Mankind’ refers to ‘Man’ in general, not ‘men’
Stop being shovenistic to women, and no that is not a big word, for you kids maybe
Mass Effect as it is known is a ‘Space Opera’ much like Star wars, developed by Bioware, they recentely released a Sequel ‘Mass Effect 2′ In January 2010
The game takes place in the year 2183, with the player, assuming the role of an elite human soldier (Or Spectre) named Commander Shepard, setting out to explore the Galaxy on a starship, the SSV Normandy
Commander Shepard leads a squad of Biotics/Soldiers/Techies. Biotics being the ‘magicey’ type character
After he witnesses A Turian known as Saren try to destroy a Human Colony on Eden Prime, he is taken for an audience with ‘The Council’ Consisting of 3 races: Salarians, Turians and Asari (Humans have yet to join the council) He tries to persuade them that their best agent (Saren) killed Nihlus (One of his Spectre buddies who is killed on Eden Prime) and tried to destroy a Human Colony
The game centres around Commander Shepard, who is determined to prove Saren as a traitor and stop his planned invasion by the Reapers and the Geth (Synthetic Machines)
Although who knows, maybe Legendary won’t use the games plot line as the movie’s plot line.
Mass Effect had the most creative world and characters that I had ever seen in a game. The plot was also very entertaining and engaging. it would make an awesome movie. I always thought it played more like a movie then a video game.
MANkind refers to huMANs , not men. It’s 2010, not the 1920′s. Don’t be oversensitive you bra burner (still supporting that idea, ladies!)
The incredible thing that makes Mass Effect stand out in the video game universe is how much player choices drive the story. From one game to another, the choices made previously carry dire effects in the progression of events into the sequel. This is why having a “Commander Shepherd” in the movie an unlikely scenario.
Any actor portraying Commander Shepherd in a movie would make choices that players of the game might not have chosen. Thus breaking canon, and defeating the one element that makes Mass Effect worthwhile. Suffice it to say, a movie made in the Mass Effect universe would have to limit it’s inclusion of Commander Shepherd as we know him (or her). Players even get to choose where/how Shepherd grew up (ex. A colonist, an earth native, a street punk, a spacer, etc.). So having a prequel with Shepherd is still out of the question.
So it is unlikely that Commander Shepherd will make an appearance in the Mass Effect film. More likely the movie will merely take place in the Mass Effect universe and follow events that either lead up to Shepherd’s life – or take place during his 2 year hiatus between Mass Effect 1 and 2 (while shepherd had died and was under incredible repair to be reconstructed back to life).
As long as the movie takes cues from BioWare’s fantastic writing team, it should be very entertaining.
On a personal note. If I’m going to be a soldier class I choose a male shepherd. but when I go biotic I do a female shepherd. I’d hate to sound sexist, but I feel like women are more emotional, and an emotionally charged biotic with fluctuating hormones is far more powerful than just some testerone fueled one. I also make her renegade – so she comes off like Jack from ME2. Just a total powerhouse of PMSing baddassness. then I have a paragon male shepherd with the utmost chivalry and class like a space-version James Bond.
IDK… the reason why Mass Effect is so popular is because it is RPG. It just seems to me that you take all the choice out and its just battlestar galactica meet star trek with biotics. I agree with Diana, I mostly play female shepards too… but one thing is obvious from reading this and that is that games do get passionate about a game they love.
I always thought that matthew fox did look like commander shepard, tho ive never watched Lost, or nothing like that i think hes a pretty good actor. I think this movie would be amazing, tho Nick is right, the best part of Mass Effect is how much your choices change the story line, i still think it would be a great movie. A good way to do this is to maybe play out the story and poll 1000 players of the game on which major choices they would make, and incorporate that into the story line. Idk just a thought i had if they were going to make it play like the game.
Alright, first of all. This is JUST a rumor! Just because it says that on IMDB doesn’t mean it’s true. Anyone can post anything there. It’s like wikipedia. Some good info, but can’t be called reliable. Also, the base male commander Shepard doesn’t look like Matthew Fox. He looks like the model Mark Vanderloo, because the Male Shepard is MODELED after him. Literally. Mark Meer does his voice, and Jennifer Hale does the female voice. Now, I know a Mass Effect movie is being made, but it’s not likely to actually have Shepard in it. Most likely a prequel of some kind, leading up the the discovery relay, and span over time to when they found the beacon. If it is some kind of sequel, then it would be continuing the same universe, but without Shepard. To make a movie that actually has Shepard in it would be stupid just because of the fact that Shepard is completely customizable and be be made into a male or a female. Why does everyone keep giving their 2 cents on who should play Shepard?! Nobody should, because he/she probably wont even be in the movie. If the makers are smart, they’ll realize this. Or, maybe…just maybe…they’ll put the default male Shepard in and cast someone. But, this I highly doubt will happen. Even that would make little sense. The other crew members, sure. Like Liara, Ashley/Kaidan, Garrus, Wrex, people like that…..but trying to put Shepard in the movie would ruin it unless they did it EXACTLY right. No easy task.
I have to agree with Ken up there. I’ve played a female Shephard twice and I’m playing the default male Shephard now. It’ll drive lots of fans crazy if they put Shephard in the movie and mess up his/her character — which would be damn easy to do since different people play the character differently. That’s what RPGs are about.
Personally, I believe if they stuck to the default male/ pure paragon shep, they would be able to remake the story that all those who have played the games have grown to love. It was the story that got me and the decisions, while important to some character development points and minor story arches, don’t change two important facts: 1) Commander Sheperd is a hero to humanity, 2) The reapers are a threat to all life. I personally believe they could solve this issue by either sending a poll to all mass effect players, or just go male paragon default Commander Sheperd. The story is still there, and reguardless if they do male or female, paragon or renegade, default or custom made, I’m still going to watch the movie because its the story that got me, not the little details.
LAL @ the this isn’t a movie comments. Check the Bioware website and probably legendary pictures. Its a movie folks! and about time we had a proper space movie since they messed up star wars, Halo is delayed/canned/dunno and yea there be a big fat hole that Mass Effect can jump into
The Shepard in the game is 29, Matthew Fox is 44, he is too old to play Commander Shepard!
Although Star Wars was fun, I totally disagree with the fact that Mass Effect is like Star Wars. Star Wars offers no real intelligent background for the stories. They are just a group of people running all over the galaxy. In Mass Effect, as in Star Trek, there are hints of issues in our world today. Mass Effect presents the underlying fact that, as the different races have the own misgivings about other races, it is Shepard and his/her team that show we will need to all work together. Is that ever true today in our own world. Also, Mass Effect shows the upper society (Citidel) and the slum regions (Omega) of space. This could be represented in the inner cities of our own country. Again, we should be there to help both groups. Not favor one over another. And it goes on like that. This makes Mass Effect much more like a Star Trek universe than a Star Wars universe.
…so true, but Matthew Fox is still too old!
Add makeup to Mathiew Fox then he will look 29
Mass effect is a game when Commander Shepard (the main character) is on the alliance military on eden prime they discovered a beacon that was from a early race called the protheans he makes there council like humanity and saves every species stay from a bad cycle that wipes out every race there that is alive that is what happened to the protheans 50,000 years ago
its great to see mass effect movie in near future.i have some things for movie actress.like matthiew fox will be good shepard.for miranda i think is best actress to be katrin zeta jones, for ashley w. female solgier from alien resurrection refor jack megan fox .
They should just leave the voice actors as actors, the models for the game are actually replicas of the voice actors…..all the human ones, at least.
@Dianne
umm WHY should the talents of the video games VOICE ACTORS have any ANY barring on movie? Just because Mark Meer might have not put enough emotion into every line for some people (which i actually preferred, he’s military so him keeping his emotions in check made more sense for me) doesn’t mean Matthew Fox is going to do the same.
Also about femshep.. “It’s so predictable and so trite” so is having a female led. My god there’s been countless over the last decade and the only things they have been are unbelievable (and im comparing this to Arnie ‘my gun has infinite bullets and i have god mode on’ movies) and have sucked.
Right now having a traditional male led would be a breathe of fresh air.
Keep with the canon Shepard which is JOHN Shepard.
Well, now that you have all completely ruined the story for anyone who has not played the games no one needs to go watch it. Also, everyone making grand assumptions based on your own opinion, remember prince of persia. Hollywood can do whatever they want with the story, timeline, and characters. So don’t say that this or that is not possible for the movie (if there is one).
P.S.- To the author: follow everyones advice and google it. It would have taken exactly .27 seconds to find everything you could need on mass effect.
As much as i love mass effect and want to see it as a movie… i see that they’re planning on making the first movie about finding the mass effect relays. So basically all thats saying is if they want to complete the Mass Effect story, they’ll have to make at least 7-8+ movies (if they plan on beginning before the game first starts – which it sounds like they’ll only be covering the First Contact War if they want to accuratly follow the story). And given that if they want to make the movies good, the production time will probably be so long we’ll be waiting 20+ years for the story to be told. So as cool as Mass Effect is and as cool as a Mass Effect movie would be, I just don’t want to see with another never ending series.
Mankind? In the game, the term Humanity is used, well when referring to the human race that is.
Anyway, great game..the sequel is even better. This guy has resemblance to the default main character, Captain John Shepard (the game gives you the choice to use a default character model or you can customize the main character to look how you want)
The storyline is fantastic, the presentation of the game feels very cinematic, the music is incredible (especially in Mass Effect 2). Mass Effect 3 is coming out 4th Qtr. 2011. If the movie is directed well (who can argue with the director of Dark Knight), it should do well as a movie adaptation since the game has a story that has characters with great depth.
The only thing this movie will be missing is the power of choice. In the game, the user can make John Shepard be a complete hardass, shady jerk or can be a reasonable, honorable and compassionate leader. The story shapes itself according to the users preference and style of play, so for me…the John Shepard that is in the movie, may be totally different than what I expect him to be based on how I played the game.
Also the game allows different romance options between the main character and supporting characters. It will be interesting to see how they decide to shape the characters in movie form. Fans of the game may be split with how they relate to the movie character if they envision Shepard to be how they played him in the game.
I would be hesitant to compare this to star wars. They are both Sci-fi, but the tone of Mass Effect is totally different than Star Wars. If you want to say that ME is as epic to sci-fi video game Role-Playing, as star wars was to sci-fi films, then maybe I can get on board with that, but ME is in no way similar to Star Wars aside from the fact that they are sci-fi and that there are alien races involved with humanity.
alright just to settle the debate here..
Mass Effect is in FULL SWING. the movie is being made with Ari Arad and Avi Arad in the full front of the production team. THIS IS NOT A RUMOR. though the Matthew Fox part is, we havnt decided on who is going to be playing Shepard..the idea of a female shep did pop up, but because all the game case art shows a male shep, we’re leaning towards that strictly because the male version is a half a** trade mark to the game. finaly..if you dont belive me “gamers” go to your holy grail website IGN.com and see for yourself..we did after all release the information to them.
ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS: its a prequel, before shep got the normandy. its about the skillian blitz and the story is more focused on Sheps orgin and not so much his alliance/cerberus obligations.
love lots
-Bioware dude-
I think the best commander sheppard would be Joe Flanigan from stargate atlantis he has the personality for it.
I personally think that Mila Kunis would be a great Ashley Williams, for a few reasons: One, Williams sounds and looks like Kunis. Two, after seeing Kunis do a serious role in Max Payne, I think this is right up her alley. Plus, I bet she’d look hot in uniform. Yum.
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are fantastic games, my favorites actually, and they actually are not based on the actual discovery of the mass effect generators, that event takes place some time around 2050, while the game takes place in the late 2100s. The plot is centered around Commander Shepard, the first ever human to be inducted into the Spectres, an elite force that operates above the law to bring justice at any cost, as he tries to find Eaten, a Turian Spectre who has gone rogue and is on a mission to resurrect the Reapers, colossal deities (for lack of a better word) who are responsible for the extinction of countless species since the beginning of time. There… adequate enough synopsis for people who don’t know the series?
To correct my mistakes:
1. I meant to say 2150, not 2050
2. I meant to say Saren, not eaten, i typed this on a phone so the autocorrect decided to poke its nose in where it didn’t belong
As long as the creators/doctors ray muzyka and Greg Zeschuk are behind the plot (which they have agreed to do) this movie will be amazing. But this will only work if they do a paragon follow through. And for those wondering what sex Shepard would be just look at any commercial for the game or any picture. It will be a male Shepard….mainly because most gamers are of the male persuasion.
Oh, and don’t forget about the books, and graphic novel, from my understanding, there is a final to the game series, but i hope the movie goes further into the mass effect universe, with a new hero, or group of heroes, or into shephard’s history.
Listen, personally i think it would be awesome for ther to be a Mass Effect movie, but am i the only one who thinks that using a Male Shepard would seem too predictable. For me i think it would be better for a Fem Shepard instead, for something different, and if they do end up making they would have to make a sequal for the second game, and for those who are Garrus fans it would be nice to see the Fem Shep/Garrus pairing, instead of having to read about it in fanfictions and only getting a little head bump in the second game if you romance Garrus.
