Today marks the anniversary of Walter Elias Disney’s death on December 15, 1966. Walt passed away just 10 days after his 65th birthday from lung cancer in Burbank, California.
It wasn’t until a year after Walt’s death that construction began on the Walt Disney World resort in Florida, and the Magic Kingdom did not open to the public until 1971. However, Walt got to see the finished creation of Disneyland.
Walt accomplished so much in his 65 years – from producing movies and television shows to creating characters and theme parks that will live on forever.
