Walt Disney Company Signs New Deals With Redbox And Netflix

February 21st, 2011 by

The Walt Disney Company has signed new deals with Redbox and Netflix movie rental companies. The new deals raise the company’s wholesale movie prices on new-release DVDs.

While other studios have refused to supply DVDs to the movie rental companies until 28 days after they are released in order to keep DVD purchases in stores high, the Walt Disney Company has decided to have Redbox and Netflix spend more money to buy the DVDs as soon as they arrive.

Disney will now charge Redbox and Neflix as much as $17.99 for its new movies. Then, after the DVD has been on the market for 28 days the price will drop to $10.75.

Definitely interesting considering that Netflix will soon have to compete with Amazon. Amazon recently announced it will be offering a subscription rental service in the near future…

incorrect Disney is making them wait 42 days not 28
