Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up” Makes A Joke About Eating Disorders And Demi Lovato Is Really Mad
Uh oh. There was a joke about eating disorders in an episode of the Disney Channel Original Series “Shake It Up,” and Demi Lovato is not happy about it at all! Here’s what Demi had to say:
‘I could just eat you up, well if I ate’ – Disney Channel’s Shake It Up…. What are we promoting here? #notfunnyATALL find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress’ from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about that very disease….. #nice. And is it just me or are the actress’ getting THINNER AND THINNER…. I miss the days of RAVEN, and LIZZIE MCGUIRE. Dear Disney Channel, EATING DISORDERS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT.
Demi’s sister Madison De La Garza also took to Twitter to comment:
Dear Disney, stop making stupid jokes about not eating. How nasty are you? Sincerely, Offended people EVERYWHERE. #fallinaditch
In addition, actress Joey King took to Twitter to support Demi and Madison:
So proud of @ddlovato for standing up for us girls who are #HEALTHYandHAPPY ! Rock on girl!!
The Disney Channel made the following official announcement via Twitter this morning:
@ddlovato – we hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them. It’s NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!

@DisneyChannelPR thank you. Just clearing things up, I have nothing against any specific actress/actor or tv show.. Nor do I think there’s anything wrong with girls who aren’t curvy, I just was stating a fact that there needs to be more variety on television so young girls growing up don’t feel pressured to look one specific way. Tall, thin, curvy, short, whatever you are, you are beautiful.

Demi is standing up for people who have eating disorders and its nothing wrong about it!!!
I understand her view completely…what she went through was not fun, or funny, and making jokes about problems that may seem
Not a big deal but are really negatively affecting people’s lives is really not humorous. I had an instance like this happen to me recently.

YEAH good job Demi and also a high five to her sister Maddison and to Joey King. I think that it is bad enough to make a joke about eating disorders and it is even worse to have jokes about that stulf on Disney for two reasons 1. It is Disney for petes stake kids growing up (like Demi said) are watching and they could think that it is ok to do things like that. 2. Demi was from Disney and they lost her (again like Demi said) to an eating disorder so why in the world did Disney do that. I love Disney I mean I have grown up watching it since I was seven up to now 12 and they are the ones that made me a Selenator and a Lovatic in the first place with Camp Rock 1 and 2, Wizards and SWAC. Its not like I’ll stop watching Disney but seriously.
