ABC has ordered a pilot show based on Marvel’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.” comics. Joss Whedon will co-write the show with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tanchareon. All three will also executive produce the show alongside Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb.

Joss will also be directing the pilot episode, and may direct more episodes in the future if his schedule permits it.

S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate and the Marvel group is led by Nick Fury, who we met in Marvel’s “The Avengers” movie. No word yet who will be cast in the lead role, or who else will join Nick Fury’s character in the series. We’ll keep you posted!
