The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow is a walk-through attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that will allow guests to follow in the footsteps of Jack Sparrow to see if they have what it takes to join his rowdy and daring pirate crew. In this video from Walt Disney Imagineering, Imagineers Jason Surrell, Laura Mitchell, Charita Carter and Jason Roberts take us behind the scenes of the making of this new experience. According to them, creating an entirely new attraction based on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film franchise was a dream come true, as was working with the film’s lead actor, Johnny Depp, who reprised his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for the attraction’s film elements.

I think this attraction was absolutely breathtaking! I’ve seen it twice, first on 11/21 (when did it open?). I was walking passed it, from The Voyage of the Little Mermaid toward Toy Story Mania and I saw part of a mural on the side of the building between them and I’m like, what is that? And I was staring at it going, is that new? What is it supposed to be? Did I just not notice that before? Then I was like, maybe it’s a map? So I walked around the corner and saw the rest of the map and the pirates logo, and a que of people. I started walking toward it to see the wait time, And the cast member started waving at me to hurry because that was the moment they started letting people in. And was like, if you want to see it, come now! So I was like, I’m not quite sure what this is, but I guess I’m going to see it! It was the last show of the evening. So when you walk in you’re standing outside a cave with the pirates logo above the door. Then the skull comes to life and starts talking and asking if you’re there to join the crew to continue at your own risk because Dead Men tell no tales. Then the doors open and you walk into the secret treasure lair of The Black Pearl where the pirate recruits fight skeletons, mermaids, the kraken, and so forth. I have never seen such top of the line three dimentional special effects that surround the visitors on all sides, 3D glasses not required! When Captain Jack Sparrow walked out onto the deck of The Black Pearl to help us fight The Flying Dutchman, I thought he was actually there! I couldn’t believe it! And the experience is filled with all of the bizzare awkward hilarious jargon that Captain Jack is especially known for. Patrons of this new experience will not be disappointed. Fans of the Pirates franchise will enjoy all of the references and details from all of the movies to date rolled into one. And inquiring minds like my own will be amazed and stumped by how those Disney Imagineers created such sophisticated and intensely real effects this time. The only suggestion that might make seeing this attraction even more enjoyable? Brush up on the lyrics to “Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirates Life For Me” before you go. You’ll see what I mean.
I’ve been waiting for this for months. I’ll be there in two days. I’m hoping for a sneak peak before the official opening, as I will definitely be in MK on the 6th. Really excited about the great reviews this attraction is getting. Can’t wait to see it!
