Buena Vista Records “Thor” Soundtrack Review

May 7, 2011 |  by  |  No Comments

Not only can you see the new Marvel movie “Thor” in theaters right now, but you can also pick up the movie’s soundtrack in stores from Buena Vista Records. The album features original music composed by Patrick Doyle and was recorded at Air Lyndhurst Studio in London and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Shearman.

Patrick Doyle revealed the following about writing music for the movie:

The score for ‘Thor’ was immensely enjoyable and challenging, requiring a consistent symphonic and contemporary tone as its gripping narrative flew between two worlds from Earth to Asgard. It required very strong emotional moments dealing with the family conflicts intertwining Thor Loki and Odin, the Thor and Jane gentle love story and the delightful light humorous moments throughout.

Here is the tracklisting for the album:

1. Chasing The Storm
2. Prologue
3. Sons Of Odin
4. A New King
5. Ride To Observatory
6. To Jotunheim
7. Laufey
8. Frost Giant Battle
9. Banishment
10. Crisis In Asgard
11. Odin Confesses
12. Hammer Found
13. Urgent Matter
14. The Compound
15. Loki’s Lie
16. My Bast**d Son
17. Science And Magic
18. The Destroyer
19. Forgive Me
20. Thor Kills The Destroyer
21. Brothers Fight
22. Letting Go
23. Can You See Jane?
24. Earth To Asgard

We haven’t seen “Thor” in theaters yet, but we can tell from the soundtrack that there will be lots of adventure, lots of action, and lots of emotion. The songs each tell their own story and we’re sure they tie into each scene in the movie perfectly.

If you are a fan of movie soundtracks that go through a range of emotions with the use of a number of different instruments and sounds, then this is a great soundtrack CD for you to pick up. And, don’t worry if you haven’t seen the movie yet either, the soundtrack stands on its own as a great CD to listen to, especially if you like to visualize the story the music is telling while you listen.

Let us know if you see “Thor” at your local theater, or if you pick up the “Thor” movie soundtrack.

Today, February 8th, Buena Vista Records released the “Gnomeo & Juliet” soundtrack to stores and online download sites. The soundtrack is from the upcoming Touchstone Pictures movie “Gnomeo & Juliet,” which will release to theaters on February 11th.

Here is the track listing for the album:

1. “Hello Hello” (Album Version) – Elton John
2. “Crocodile Rock” – Nelly Furtado featuring Elton John
3. “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” – Elton John
4. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” – Elton John and Kiki Dee
5. “Love Builds a Garden” – Elton John
6. “Your Song” – Elton John
7. “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be A Long, Long Time” – Elton John
8. “Tiny Dancer” – Elton John
9. “Bennie And The Jets” – Elton John
10. “Gnomeo and Juliet” (Score) – James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon
11. “Dandelions” (Score) – James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon
12. “Bennie And The Bunnies” (Score) – James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon
13. “Terrafirminator” (Score) – James Newton Howard and Chris Bacon
14. “The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room” – Wally Boag, Fulton Burley, Thurl Ravenscroft and The Mellomen

And here is the description of the movie:

“Based on William Shakespeare’s immortal love story, ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ gives the play a comic off-the-wall makeover. Two garden gnomes, Gnomeo (voice of James McAvory) and Juliet (voice of Emily Blunt) try to avoid tragedy and find a happy ending to their star-crossed love affair. But with plastic pink flamingos, feuding neighbors and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find lasting happiness? Also featured in the cast are the voices of Oscar-winners Michael Caine and Maggie Smith, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart, Ashley Jensen, Stephen Merchant, Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton and Hulk Hogan.”

The “Gnomeo & Juliet” soundtrack was produced by Elton John and David Furnish with executive producer Chris Montan. Music supervisors for the album were Kaylin Frank and Matt Walker while Mitchell Leib was in charge of music and soundtracks for the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production and the Disney Music Group.

We thought this album was really fun to listen to. We put it in the CD player during a recent car trip and found ourselves singing along with a number of the classic Elton John songs that many of us know and love. We can’t wait to see how the songs are used in the movie – we have a feeling that the songs are really going to add that extra sparkle to the film!

Our all-time favorite song on the album is of course “The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room.” The song is from one of our favorite attractions at the Disney park that we make a point to stop by every time we’re at Disney. This is one song on the album that is going to be so much fun to watch in the movie on the big screen!

Be sure to pick up a copy of the “Gnomeo & Juliet” soundtrack and let us know what YOU think!
