Demi Lovato News, Gossip and Photos
In a recent interview with Glam Belleza Latina Magazine, Demi Lovato was asked if social media had a negative effect on her, since a recent “Glamour” study showed that women feel worse about their bodies today than the women of 30 years ago felt.
Here’s what Demi had to say,
Social media started impacting my life when I was about 14 years old. I would check it obsessively, reading comments and wondering if people noticed that I’d gained or lost weight. I allowed social media to define what I thought of my body. And now I realize that no matter how thin you are, someone will call you fat. No matter how beautiful you are, someone will call you ugly. But you can’t spend your time worrying about that. You’re just not going to please the world.
When Demi was 18 years-old, she revealed that she was struggling with anorexia and bulimia.
Here’s what she had to say when asked how she manages today,
It’s very easy for my old eating habits to kick in, so I follow a pretty strict routine. I don’t like to call it a diet, because for me it’s medicine. I have a nutritionist who sends me meals wherever I am on the road. This makes everything super simple.
Demi recently spoke to the US Congress about mental health reform, here’s what she said about why being an advocacy for mental health is so important to her,
It gets me outside of my head and gives me a sense of joy. I’m also very passionate about charity because it helps people who don’t’ have as loud of a voice as I do. Performing is my passion. But it’s not gonna change the world. That’s why I give back.
It’s great to see how Demi Lovato has changed her life in such a positive way the past few years!
Demi Lovato spoke out on her twitter page today against the misconceptions that people dealing with eating disorders have to face everyday.
Here is what Demi posted,
Having an eating disorder doesn’t show ‘strength.’ Strength is when are able to overcome your demons after being sick and tired for so long. There’s a wide misconception that anorexia and/or bulimia is a choice and you often hear people say things like ‘why doesn’t she just start eating?’ Or even ‘just stop throwing up.’ It’s the ignorance and lack of education on mental illnesses that continues to but mental health care on the back burner to congress even though this is an epidemic that is sweeping our nation, and causing more and more tragedy every day.
Demi continues to say,
Starving is not a ‘diet’ and throwing up isn’t something that only extremely thin men or women do. Eathing disorders do not discriminate.. Neither does any other mental illness. These are deadly diseases that are taking lives daily. So please, let’s be cautious of the words we use when discussing ED’s and other mental illnesses…
Demi went on to say “Btw this isn’t a rant, just a reminder for everyone out there who may not know the severity of these deadly diseases. No hate here.”
We love Demi for speaking out on the subject of Eating Disorders and mental illness. She is a truly a positive role model for all!
