Former Disney-owned Miramax may enter into a pretty lucrative deal with Netfix in the near future that would allow Netflix to stream Miramax’s library of movies and would make Miramax $100 million over five years. Miramax has over 700 titles.

The deal to sell Miramax Films hasn’t gone through yet so Disney is still in charge of the company – leading to their decision to sell off individual movies to other film studios. The first two movies to be released from Miramax’s hold include “The Debt” and “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.”

“The Debt” was set to release on December 29, 2010, while “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” was set to release on January 21, 2011. However, the films are now being sold by Disney to Filmyard Holdings and the release dates have been pushed back to later 2011.

Miramax is releasing a new movie on December 29, 2010 called “The Debt.” Here is the plot of the movie from IMDB:

“Rachel Singer is a former Mossad agent who endeavored to capture and bring to trial a notorious Nazi war criminal – the Surgeon of Birkenau – in a secret Israeli mission that ended with his death on the streets of East Berlin. Now, 30 years later, a man claiming to be the doctor has surfaced, and Rachel must go back to Eastern Europe to uncover the truth. Overwhelmed by haunting memories of her younger self and her two fellow agents, the still-celebrated heroine must relive the trauma of those events and confront the debt she has incurred.”

Does this sound like a movie you want to see in theaters?

Jennifer Aniston served as executive producer and lead actress in the new movie “The Switch” put out by Miramax Studios. Miramax was owned by the Walt Disney Company when Jennifer agreed to let them distribute the movie, however the Walt Disney Company has since sold Miramax.

It is being reported that Jennifer is upset at how the movie was marketed and believes that the disappointing box office numbers are because of the lack in advertising for the film.

Do you think Jen has a right to be upset? Or do you think the marketing for the movie was fine and it wouldn’t have done better no matter which company owned the rights to it?

It is being reported that the Walt Disney Company has not yet finalized it’s deal to sell Miramax for $660 million to a group led by Ron Tutor. It is expected that the deal will not be fully closed until September.

Apparently, there is a problem with determining the worth of Miramax’s movie catalog – meaning there is a chance the deal won’t even go through if it is determined that the library of movies are worth either more or less than the amount previously agreed to by both companies.

In addition, Ron and his group are hoping that they will be able to get almost $300 million in financing to help them buy Miramax, and it is being reported that the banks have not given the go-ahead for this amount of money.

Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films are releasing a new movie to theaters called “The Tempest.” The movie will release in New York and Los Angeles on December 10th and expand its release on December 17th.

“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is rated R for both violence and terror and is set to release to theaters on January 21, 2010. The movie was produced by Guillermo del Toro (who is working on the new “The Haunted Mansion” movie – yikes!) and Mark Johnson while Stephen Jones, William Horberg and Tom Williams served as Executive Producers and Troy Nixey directed. The screenplay was written by Guillermo and Matthew Robbins.

Here is the description of the movie:

Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring.
