The sequel to James Cameron’s movie “Avatar” was expected to arrive in theaters in 2014, however the new release date is reportedly in 2016! The third movie in the franchise is expected to arrive one year later in 2017.
Nobody knows why the movies are being delayed for so long, but we’re wondering if it has anything to do with the new Avatar Land being built at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park. The Disney Parks Blog revealed that construction for the new area of the park would begin in 2013, meaning it wouldn’t be completed until at least 2015 (that’s just our guess). With those years in mind, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea for the sequel to the original movie to arrive in 2016 instead of 2014.

James Cameron Visits Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. The director is working with Disney to bring his film Avatar to land at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park and he was at the new Cars Land to find inspiration.
James was joined during his visit by a number of Disney Imagineers and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs.
James Cameron (“Avatar”) was spotted at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom recently taking a tour around the park that will soon host “Avatar” Land! Joining James at the park was his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau and Disney Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Tom Staggs and Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde.

Getting the chance to roll up my sleeves and explore Disney’s Animal Kingdom from the inside out was a phenomenal experience,. As I walked through the park, I kept imagining Pandora coming to life all around me and found my mind racing with all the possibilities of what we will be able to create in the years ahead. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is truly a remarkable place and I can’t think of a better home for our first AVATAR experience.
Construction for the “Avatar” Land at Animal Kingdom is expected to begin by 2013. Exciting!
