Touchstone Home Entertainment and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have released “The Tempest” on Blu-ray, DVD, Movie Download and On Demand. The movie is a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s masterpiece and stars an amazing cast, including the following actors:
- Helen Mirren
- Russell Brand
- Alfred Molina
- Djimon Hounsou
- Alan Cumming
- Chris Cooper
- David Straitharn
We recently rented the movie “Arthur,” which also stars Helen Mirren and Russell Brand, so it was fun to see the two reunite in another film. The first thing we noticed when we started watching “The Tempest” was how unique the movie is. It is filmed in a way that makes you feel as if you are watching a stage production that includes special effects. All of the characters speak in the vocabulary of the time, which makes you feel like you’re reading straight from Shakespeare’s pages as you watch the film.
The costumes in the movie are so vibrant and extravagant. They’re similar to the costumes of the time, but with a modern twist that makes us wish we had some of the outfits for ourselves!
We really enjoyed watching “The Tempest” and we hope you pick up a copy to watch for yourself! The movie is not just a film, it’s an experience. It’s vibrant colors and Shakespearean language along with its special effects and over the top characters lend themselves to a timeless movie.
Bonus Features on the Blu-ray include:
- “The Tempest” Documentary
- “Audio Commentary with Director Julie Taymor
- Russell Brand’s Rehearsal Riff
- “O Mistress Mine” Reeve Carney Music Video
